It is not right to say that any common measure determines that it is a sign of having horns. Because the latter, even if any one part is pointed out, can become a sign of inferring that some things have horns. But for the former, no matter which part is pointed out, it is impossible to be a pervasion. Therefore, Master Dharmakīrti thought that when he saw the light of a jewel in a crack in the door, he could not determine whether it was the jewel or the light of the jewel, and he thought that there was a jewel here. If it is taken as a sign, because it is a jewel or the light of a jewel, saying that there is a jewel, the object of doubt itself becomes a sign, and it seems to become an unestablished doubt. If the proposition is examined, it is considered unreasonable because of clinging to the idea that "there is a jewel here," and it is obtained in a place like the depths of a room, thinking that it is not wrong to have a jewel on that side. If it is thought that there is a jewel in the crack of the door, because it is distinguished by the place, it is not obtained in the place where it should be examined, and it is not examined in the place where it is obtained, so it cannot become a valid cognition. Because it is wrong in place, time, and form, it cannot become a valid cognition. In order to eliminate the dispute, examining whether it is momentary or not, thereby eliminating the unreasonable; examining from one and many, thereby eliminating the unreasonable; examining from coarse and fine, thereby eliminating the unreasonable. First, like the previously perceived direct perception, it does not examine whether it is momentary. And the blue that is obtained is momentary, and through the subsequent inference of recognizing smoke with fire, although it cannot be determined whether it is momentary, the object obtained is momentary, so can't these also become invalid cognitions? There is no fault. Even if the difference of the moment needs to be measured by another valid cognition, the direct perception of recognizing blue obtains the blue itself, so there is no fault of not obtaining that examination. Moreover, that moment obtained also belongs to the completely examined blue, so there is no contradiction. Second, in direct perception, it does not appear to have multiple parts, and completely examining one blue, what is obtained is the nature of multiple parts. If you think so, there is no fault. Even if parts and having parts do not appear in the object of direct perception, blue is recognized, and blue is obtained by relying on it. In the case of considering the light of a jewel as a jewel, because it is thought to be in the crack of the door, and it is obtained in the depths of the fence, it cannot become a valid cognition. Third, the direct perception of recognizing blue

The blue seen and examined by the senses is coarse, but the small parts that are obtained, because they are obtained and function, do not obtain examination. The fault of not examining what is obtained is also the same, because coarse and fine are contradictory. If you say: Although coarse and fine are contradictory on one basis, the blue seen by direct perception, that blue itself is coarse, and the many blue particles obtained are also of the nature of one coarse thing, so there is no fault. Then, will the coarse appear to direct perception? If you say: Although blue is a dharma of meaning, just as many blue particles appearing as blue is a dharma of mind, blue and many blue particles are dharmas of meaning, but those appearing as coarse are special dharmas of conceptualization, and do not appear to sense consciousness. Therefore, the answers given by the teacher Dharmakirti to the harms and debates thrown out before and after are difficult for others to refute, so that system appears to be very complete. The meaning of the debate answer is summarized as: thinking that there is a jewel in that direction is not the way of holding a false perception, because the appearance of light in the crack of the door is taken as a special basis, and it is adhered to as thinking that there is a jewel there. The reason for this is that the mind does not turn to any other corner, but the eye consciousness sees the appearance of the crack of the door and then adheres to the thought that there is a jewel. The summary of refuting it is: that consciousness is not valid, because there is no examination of where the basis is, so it is not obtained. Where it is obtained, the mind does not turn to either directly or indirectly, so it is not examined. The pervasion exists, because the jewel that exists there distinguished by the crack of the door and the jewel that exists there distinguished by the corner are contradictory. The debate on this is: Then, the blue obtained by direct perception, because it is not examined, should also become non-valid, because the moment is not examined, and the blue that has become a moment is obtained. There is no contradiction whatsoever between not examining the moment with consciousness and obtaining the blue that has become a moment, because the blue that is examined also belongs to the category of moments. Also, direct perception examines one, but does not obtain many when obtaining, so it should become non-valid, because one and many are contradictory. Also, the blue that is grasped and examined by direct perception is coarse, but is fine when obtained.
