Whatever is mistaken is invariably not a valid means of cognition. For example, like seeing a conch shell as yellow due to jaundice. The consequence of the pervasion-contradictory aspect that inference is also mistaken. Inference with the thought of self-character is a valid means of cognition, therefore it is not mistaken, and it is merely the realization of the nature of self-character. The reversed self-nature thrown by the consequence is: If it is a valid means of cognition, it is invariably not mistaken, like direct perception. Inference is also a valid means of cognition. This is the pervasion-contradictory aspect. Whatever object of whatever is the cognizer, that object is invariably the nature of that cognizer, inference is also the realization of its own characteristic. This is the reason of self-nature. This is the thought of the debater. The answer to that is "to the thought." For the meaning of the thought, because there is no deception, it is established as a valid means of cognition. Others think that inference engages by clinging to the apprehended aspect as external. If it does not establish as it clings, then it is thought to be realized by another subsequent mind of self-nature. To that, some say that the subsequent mind of self-nature is not suitable as direct perception, therefore it must be inference. And also, because of clinging to the apprehended aspect as external, another mind of self-nature must be sought for that as well. This will lead to no end. If one subsequent inference of self-nature is not mistaken about the object of clinging, then the first inference is also the same, therefore it must be thought that whatever inference is not mistaken about the object of clinging. This is a well-explained explanation. Among the two syllogisms of consequence previously listed, the proposition of the first one, if it is realized, the meaning of not realizing the other one. If it is proven that there is not such another one in the meaning to be realized, then it is uncertain by clinging to the light of the jewel as a jewel. If it is proven that it is not holding the self-character as it is, then it is proving what has already been established. For the first reason of the reversed self-nature thrown by the refutation, the commentator explained that it is uncertain by the mind holding the light of the jewel as a jewel, therefore it is clear that it is considered as a valid means of cognition. Teacher Shakya-mind made it as an inference. The second self-nature listed by the author, it is said that it has already been answered with "because the expressed itself is an unestablished reason," etc. Teacher Dharma-supreme knows the meaning of this example.

Although these two places are equally not valid cognitions, the example illustrates the difference in whether the knowledge of obtaining a jewel causes other knowledge. The master's intention is not to infer, because the debater considers mere inference to be erroneous knowledge and therefore not a valid cognition, so it is unreasonable to give a specific inference as an example in any way. In the world, neither are some inferences that are considered valid cognitions used as examples, because this is denying and slandering that inference is a valid cognition. Furthermore, inference must first determine the relationship between the sign and the property, but this does not have that. If this is taken as a sign, it will become "This place has a jewel, because it is either a jewel or the light of a jewel," and therefore it will become a doubtful unestablished. The two ways of holding the sign without error that are spoken of, the first is generally established on the example, and the latter is a later recollection, the latter is not suitable as Dharmakirti's inference. Applying that example to the meaning, considering inference as erroneous knowledge means that it is erroneous on the object of appearance, but not erroneous on the object of attachment. Dharmakirti's statement that it is impossible to establish self-character cognition other than through superimposition cognition shows that the self-reflexive of the object of attachment of inference that measures self-character is a conceptual construct, and it is not considered that self-character is cognized through cognizing the superimposition that is the object of apprehension. When preventing attachment to the light of a jewel as a jewel, Master Dharmakirti made two types of prevention: based on the sign and based on the commitment. The first is that others clearly take either the jewel or the light of the jewel as the sign, because he is refuting me specifically, and it is also impossible not to consider the intention of the previous party. Either one is not suitable as a sign, because on some basis, it is impossible for a person who has determined the light of a jewel to be uncertain whether there is a jewel, especially when doubting both the jewel and the light of the jewel, it is impossible to determine through the general quantity of either one. Some of the former ones think that the refutation made by Master Dharmakirti is unreasonable, because it is uncertain whether it is an individual thing that is a cow or a non-cow.
