Those who, knowing that this profound Dharma of dependent origination is difficult to understand, have turned away from the teachings of the Sugata, the Bhagavan. As it is said in the sutra: Not long after the Bhagavan attained complete enlightenment, he thought to himself: This profound Dharma that I have realized, which appears profound, is not to be examined, is not the object of speculation, is subtle, and is to be understood by the wise and intelligent. If I were to teach it to others, they would not understand it, and it would harm me and make me despondent. I would become displeased, so I should remain alone in a solitary place, enjoying the bliss of the Dharma that I have seen. This is explained in detail. The second point is that if one does not understand the two truths as they truly are, many faults will arise, such as: If everything is empty, then there is no arising and no ceasing, and so on. This is because one does not understand the distinctions of the two truths, and does not comprehend emptiness, the meaning of emptiness, and the necessity of emptiness. Therefore, we should not cling to the assertion of emptiness. Therefore, you who speak of many faults of emptiness and seek to abandon emptiness should not enter my school. As it is, you are imposing the meaning of emptiness on things that have no function and then criticizing them. We do not think so, but rather explain that the meaning of dependent origination is the meaning of emptiness of inherent existence, so these refutations are unreasonable. The Madhyamikas argue that all actions are unreasonable because they do not understand that emptiness is the meaning of dependent origination, so we should strive to understand this. The third point is that not only are we free from the above faults, but all distinctions such as truth are very reasonable. That is to say, in any school, if all things can be established as empty of inherent existence, then all the above statements will be reasonable. The reason for this is that we are dependently originated.
