If it is just that, there is a beginning, and like that, the self or just sentient beings, if they did not appear in the previous life, but newly appear here, it will become a fault, and if just the self newly appears in this life, then before that, there needs to be another self that accomplishes me, but because that is also not there, so just the self newly appearing in this life is also unreasonable. If the self of Devadatta newly appears in this life, then such an appearance will become causeless, because before that, the self of Devadatta and the same continuum has not passed, and the self of this life needs a self as its maker to appear before it. Or, this "or" is the meaning of distinction, that is, either I will become made, or I will not admit that I did not appear in the past; either my appearance will become causeless, or I will not admit that I did not appear in the past. The second point is that, as said before, it is unreasonable to think that I appeared in the past, and to think that I exist with the nature of not appearing in the past. Because each is unreasonable, it is also unreasonable to think that both appearing and not appearing in the past exist simultaneously. Like this, because it is unreasonable for both to exist simultaneously, so by negating these two, it is also unreasonable to think that I exist with the nature of neither appearing nor not appearing in the past. Like this, seeing dependent origination as it is will not rely on those views that rely on the past extreme, because those views are that things exist in other ways, but are clung to as other ways, while realizing dependent origination does not have such clinging. Like this, the meaning of the sentence "I was here in the past" is that the conventional self does not refer to the person who speaks this sentence, but refers to just a person who follows those times without distinguishing between past and future times. If this principle is realized, then the meaning of the many words in the sutras that say "I was here in the past" is that the Buddha who speaks this sentence is the same as the people and things that appeared in the previous lives. In this way, the evil views clinging to the past extreme can be eliminated, and the evil views clinging to the future extreme can also be eliminated.

End. Second, refuting those views that inherently hold that "I will appear in the future at some other time" and "I will not appear at that time." Refuting the view of whether or not it existed in the past is the same as this, so refute its arguments. That is, "It will be born in the future" is not reasonable. What will be produced in the future, it itself is not this one now. Etc., refuting the view that the self of the previous and subsequent lives and I are the same. And "It will not be born in the future" is also unreasonable. What will be produced in the future part, it is not other than this one now. Etc., applying the refutation of the view that the self and I are other in the same way. The third part is divided into two parts: refuting the first two extreme views of permanence and impermanence, and refuting the latter two extreme views. The first case is: Here some people perform virtuous deeds and then go to the realm of the gods. If these two exist inherently, then are they the same or different in essence? If it is like the first case, then it will become that the god is the person, and if that is the case, then the person will become permanent, because without abandoning the things of the person, the birth of the god is obtained. If the person is the god, then it will also become unborn, because the permanent has no birth. Therefore, it is not reasonable to cling to the former extreme and think that the world is permanent. If the god and the person are inherently different, then just as the mango tree and the neem tree have different lineages, the god and the person will not belong to the same lineage, because the self-characteristics are different and cause and effect are incompatible. Therefore, the continuation of the previous person is impermanent, that is, it will be cut off. If the god and the person are inherently different, then it is unreasonable for the two to have the same lineage, but there is a lineage in which the former lineage continues subsequently. Therefore, it is also unreasonable to cling to the former extreme and think that the world is impermanent as inherently existing. The second case is: If this person abandons the human body on one hand and obtains the body of the god on the other hand, then there is no fault of permanence and impermanence as a whole, is that so? Then, the god and the person of the previous and subsequent lives are the same from the perspective of life or self, and from the perspective of the body
