If it is said that it becomes the self of the taker, that is not possible. Because the action and the agent would become one, therefore the pot and the potter, etc., would also become one. If it is thought that only the aggregates that are taken are not the self, but that I am different in nature from what is taken, then it is not reasonable that the self of the taker is different in nature from the object to be taken. If the two were established as other by their own nature, then it would be reasonable to be able to grasp the self without the aggregates that are taken, but that is not the case. If this is also established as other by its own character, then it cannot be dependent, thus being able to sever the relationship. A separate entity without a relationship must be regarded as separate, but it is not regarded as such. This is the reasoning that shows that there is no establishment as other by nature. The second point is that, as mentioned earlier, if it becomes graspable without relying on the aggregates, then I am also not different in nature from what is taken. If it is said that the action and the agent become one, and that it is impermanent, then it will become annihilation, so that self is not the aggregates that are taken themselves. Because it is absurd to posit a self without a cause, I am also not existing without relying on what is taken. If you think that way, then is there no self? That self is also not necessarily non-existent, because it is posited in dependence on the aggregates, while non-existent things such as the son of a barren woman are not posited in dependence on the aggregates. The second point is that it is also unreasonable to view that in the time of past lives, it exists by nature in a form that has never appeared before. If the nature of this self of the present life is established as different from the self of the previous life, then it would be acceptable to hold that the self was established by nature without appearing in the past, but that is impossible. If the two selves of previous and later lives are established as other by their very nature, then what is the fault? If this self of this life is different in nature from the self of the previous life, then the self of this life will also arise without relying on the self of the previous life, and the self of the previous life will also remain without ceasing when the later life arises, just like its own time, and will also be born in this life without dying in the previous life. If the self arises here without relying on the self of the previous life, then

What will the faults become? They will become many faults, like this, because the previous self has perished at that time; and, because only something that is by nature different from the previous self in this life is born, the previous self will be cut off. Because it is unreasonable for the later self to arise from the previous self. If the previous self is cut off, then the fruits of karma that arise after it will be completely cut off because there is no basis; and, because there is no enjoyer, the fruits of all karmas will be wasted. If you want the later self to enjoy the fruits of karma done by the previous self, then now also the fruits of karmas done by other continuums should be experienced separately by other continuums; and, such things are in the eighth chapter. It says, "If karma is not done, not done and fear meet and change." Such faults will occur. Furthermore, if this self of this life is born here as something that is by nature different from the previous self, then the self that is the basis of the term "I," will change from not arising before to arising later, but it is not established that arising later from not arising before. If you think so, you will fall into the fault of unwillingness to accept. Like this, if I change from not arising before to arising later, then I will become created. Those who think that I exist as a real thing, think that I cannot be said to be either permanent or impermanent, and if I am created, then I will become impermanent. Furthermore, because there is no creator different from the one who establishes that self, how can I be created? If you think that I am created, then there will be the beginning of samsara, and the fault of new beings arising that did not exist before, which has been said in the commentary. The way these faults apply is, if you say that the two selves of previous and later lives are different in essence and nature, then, without being distinguished by times such as previous and later lives, the general self that Lhas Byin focuses on and gives rise to the thought of "I," It is unreasonable for the nature of this person's self in this life to be different, so it must be considered that the nature is the same. If so, just as the self of this life does not exist in previous births, but newly arises here, the general self will also arise in the same way, so I
