The fruit is produced only by the cause, not by the aggregation of causes and conditions, and there is no fault of the cause giving or not giving to the fruit. Because the cause itself ceases and exists as the nature of the fruit, so it is asserted. If the fruit arises when the cause ceases, and it is also thought that the fruit is only the nature of the cause, then like an actor changing costumes, the cause becomes merely changing all the time, and not producing a fruit that did not exist before. Therefore, if the cause is permanent, it is unreasonable, because permanent things do not exist. Furthermore, the previously produced cause will also be produced again, because it will be produced both in the initial stage of the cause and later in the stage of the fruit. This is also unreasonable, because it does not need to be produced, and production will become endless. The second part is divided into two points: "Refuting the action of the cause producing the fruit, and refuting that the cause itself exists by nature." The first part is divided into seven points: Refuting that the cause ceases and exists when producing the fruit; refuting that the cause produces the fruit when it is visible and invisible; refuting that the cause produces the fruit when it is in contact and not in contact; refuting that the cause of the empty and non-empty fruit produces the fruit; refuting that the cause produces the fruit when the fruit is empty and non-empty; refuting that the cause of the same and different nature produces the fruit; refuting that the cause produces the fruit when the fruit's essence exists and does not exist. The first point is: Furthermore, if the cause produces the fruit by its own nature, then does the cause produce it when it has ceased or has not ceased before the fruit? Is the fruit also produced when it has already been produced or not produced? Let's examine this. If, as in the first case, the cause ceases, disappears, that is, is destroyed, how can it produce the fruit? This cannot be produced. Because when the cause ceases, the cause does not exist, and what does not exist cannot be a cause, and the fruit that has already been produced does not need to be produced again. If, as in the second case, the cause related to the fruit exists, that is, has not been destroyed, then how can it produce the fruit by its own nature? This cannot be produced. If it is not destroyed, and it is established by its own nature, then the fruit should be visible without the cause changing, which is unreasonable. As it is said in the Hundred Treatises: The cause is various.
