It is said that with the wisdom that measures reality as it is, things that appear to be obscured by the haze of ignorance are not seen, just as eyes without haze do not see hair. Second, there are two: refuting the argument that the reality is not seen, and refuting the argument that the extent of reality is not seen. First: If the Buddha attains the ultimate truth with the wisdom that knows reality as it is, then the Commentary on Entering the Middle Way says: If they do not see such a nature, how do they see it? It is true, but they see it in a way that they do not see it. It is said that seeing nothing is seeing it. And to prove this, it is cited that the ultimate truth transcends the realm of all-knowing wisdom, and how is it not contradictory to say that the flow of mind and mental events is permanently cut off on the Buddha's ground? Answer: Seeing in a way that you do not see does not mean that you do not see all objects. This has already been said in the fifteenth chapter of the commentary. In the Entering the Two Truths, it says: Sons of the gods, the ultimate truth is the most excellent of all aspects and transcends the realm of all-knowing wisdom. It is not like saying that it is the ultimate truth. Thus, when saying that it is the ultimate truth, it is said that the object and the subject appear separately in the mind, and that it is not seen in this way. It is the source of eliminating dualistic appearances, not the source of the Buddha not realizing the ultimate truth. In the Commentary on Entering the Middle Way, it is also said: Because he directly realizes only the nature without touching the made things, he is called the Buddha because he understands it. Thus, it is said that the Buddha's wisdom that knows reality as it is does not touch the other-dependent, but only realizes the nature of reality. The cessation of the flow of mind and mental events is said in the Clear Words to be the cessation of the flow of conceptualization, which has already been mentioned. Furthermore, the Commentary on Entering the Middle Way says: If that nature does not exist, then bodhisattvas practice austerities to realize it, and it is established with meaningless reasons and proofs. As it is said: What is their nature? It is said that their non-fabrication and other

That which is independent of anything, is the very nature to be realized by the wisdom free from the darkness of ignorance. Who would say whether it exists or not? If it does not exist, then for what reason would Bodhisattvas cultivate the path of the perfections? Because in order to realize that Dharma-nature, Bodhisattvas undertake hundreds of thousands of hardships in that way. As it is said, son of lineage, the ultimate truth is unborn, unceasing, indestructible, uncoming, ungoing, not to be expressed by letters, not to be fully explained by letters, and not to be realized by elaboration. Son of lineage, the ultimate truth is inexpressible, peaceful, and is to be individually realized by the noble ones. Son of lineage, the ultimate truth is whether the Tathāgatas appear or do not appear, for what reason do Bodhisattvas shave their hair and beards, wear monastic robes, and with true faith go forth from home to homelessness, and having gone forth, strive diligently like fire in their hair or clothes in order to attain that Dharma, and do not destroy their conduct? Son of lineage, if the ultimate truth did not exist, then pure conduct
