Refutation. Fourth, furthermore, if the cause is empty, without a result, then how can it produce a result, or not produce a result? If it is otherwise, just as there is no ghee in water and yogurt, the difference that yogurt can produce ghee while water cannot cannot be found. If the cause is not empty, not empty of its own result, then how can it produce a result, or not produce a result? Because an already existing result will not be produced again, like Devadatta who already has a son. Fifth, is the result that is produced born from a self-existent non-emptiness, or from emptiness? Regarding this, if it is a self-existent non-emptiness, it will not be produced, because it is not interdependent arising, but self-existent. Such non-emptiness, because there is no change in its nature, will not cease. Therefore, if you think that the result is non-empty, then it will also become unceasing and unborn, but you do not think so. If the result is empty by its own nature, then how can it be born by its own nature, and how can it cease by its own nature? This is impossible, like space. Therefore, if you think that the result is empty by its own nature, then it will also become inherently unceasing and unborn, but you do not think so either. Sixth, furthermore, if the cause produces the result by its own nature, then it is no more than two possibilities, that is, the cause and the result are both of the same nature, but this can never be established. The cause and the result are both of different natures, this can also never be established, this is just an assertion. The proof for this is that if the cause and the result are both of the same nature, then the son and eye consciousness and sprout that are produced, and the father and eyes and seeds that produce them will all become one. If the cause and the result are both of different natures, then because there is no need to rely on others established by their own characteristics, then what is a cause and what is not a cause will become the same as what is a cause or not a cause, because for unrelated other things, it is impossible to distinguish whether it is a cause or a result. Seventh, furthermore, if the cause produces the result, then does the result exist by its own nature or not?
