The reason for arising is: the object of perversion does not arise from the self, nor does it arise from the other, nor does it arise from the collection of self and other. Because perversion is empty of inherent existence, how can a person with perversion be inherently established? It is not. Third, if self, purity, permanence, and happiness inherently exist, then the knowable would not be perverse, like selflessness and so on. This is an example of merely establishing the meaning for others. If self, purity, permanence, and happiness do not inherently exist, then selflessness, impurity, impermanence, and suffering are also not inherently existent. Because if there is no object to be negated, then negating it cannot be established as true. If that is the case, because selflessness is non-existent in its own essence, the four, selflessness and so on, being inherently existent, would also become perverse knowables, like self and so on. Therefore, those who desire liberation should abandon all eight perversions. Fourth, as previously explained, analyzing with reason whether perversion inherently exists or not is of great significance. As previously explained, because a yogi does not perceive perversion, perversion will cease, and when it ceases, its cause, ignorance, will also cease. When ignorance ceases, then all the later branches of existence, such as formations, will cease, because they are all caused by ignorance. Second, if that is the case, then are those who abandon afflictions such as ignorance inherently existent? Because afflictions are inherently existent, is the continuum of existence inherently existent? If those who abandon afflictions are inherently existent, then it would be so, but that is not the case. Like this, if some people's afflictions are inherently existent, then how would they be abandoned by an antidote? It would not be. What path would abandon what is inherently existent? Because inherent existence is irreversible. If some people's afflictions are not inherently existent, then how would they be abandoned? It would not be. If it is established by its own characteristics, if there is no inherent existence, then it is completely non-existent.

Because it is utterly non-existent, what antidote would abandon it? It will not be abandoned, just as no one can drive away fire with cold. Although our own school believes that it is most reasonable to abandon what should be abandoned with an antidote for things that are inherently non-existent, there are two ways to show others that abandonment is unreasonable for things that are inherently existent: one is what was said before, and the other is to criticize from the aspect of admitting the self-nature of abandonment itself. All categories like that should be understood. Second, in this way, afflictions such as attachment together with causes and conditions, and objects and subjects such as permanence and impermanence, are determined to be without self-nature by reason, and this is also established by profound scriptures. In order to show that everything said in the scriptures will be explained by this argument, only the aspect of combining definitive meaning scriptures is briefly mentioned. In the Sutra Requested by Steadfast Intelligence, it says: "Son of good family, some monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen think of the unwholesome for dharmas that have not been born and have not arisen, and think of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, those should also be viewed in the same way. Do not say that I am cultivating the path for those fools, those are called wrongly entered." It is said by taking the example of seeing an illusory woman, mistaking her for a real woman, and generating desire, then thinking of that woman as impure, etc. Also, in that same sutra, it says: "Son of good family, childish ordinary beings, because they do not understand the limit of attachment, they are afraid of the terror of the limit of attachment, and seek to be liberated from the limit of attachment. Because they do not understand that the limit of hatred is the limit of nothingness, they are afraid of the terror of the limit of hatred, and completely seek to be liberated from the limit of nothingness. Because they do not understand that the limit of ignorance is the limit of emptiness, they are afraid of the terror of the limit of ignorance, and completely seek to be liberated from the limit of emptiness. Do not say that I am cultivating the path for those fools, those are called completely wrongly entered." Thus it was said. Third, in this way, for things established by their own nature, the object is lovely
