In the other two cases, if one considers impermanence to be permanent, and such clinging is inverted, then since there is no permanence in emptiness, how is such clinging not inverted? So it is said. The second case is, if one establishes that clinging to impermanence as permanent is inverted, then since things are empty of inherent existence, impermanence is also empty of inherent existence. Because of inherent existence, clinging to impermanence in emptiness, how is such clinging not inverted, but inherently existent? If the wisdom that clings to impermanence as not inverted is inherently established, then the object of knowledge, impermanence, must be inherently established as not inverted; this is the reasoning. Thus, in relation to the aggregates, if both permanence and impermanence, as objects of knowledge, are not inverted and are empty of essence, then apart from these two, there is no object of knowledge that is inherently established. Because there is none, what does the non-inverted object of knowledge rely on to become inverted? Similarly, apply this to the remaining three. If one considers suffering to be happiness, and such clinging is inverted, then emptiness is suffering itself; how is such clinging not inverted? That is the way it is. If clinging to permanence is inverted and inherently established, then impermanence must be not inverted and inherently established; this is the reasoning. The third case is, if clinging to permanence is not inverted and not inherently established, even so, clinging itself is temporarily inherently existent. Among these, clinging is the nature of action. Among these, undoubtedly, the action that establishes permanence, etc., and the agent of self or mind, and the action of form, etc., must also exist. If these are inherently established, then my wish is fulfilled. If so, then by what action does clinging occur, and what kind of action is clinging, and the agent of clinging, and the object that is clung to—all of these are pacified, that is, unborn of inherent existence. Therefore, clinging itself is not inherently existent. Without action, like "if impermanence is permanence," etc.; without an agent, like "my existence and non-existence," etc.; without an object to be grasped, like "form, sound, taste, and touch," etc., it has already been explained.

Because the first "doing" and so on show that actions, things, agents, and all actions are unborn, there is no clinging. Second, if the inverted nature exists, because the deity endowed with inversion, Heavenly Gift, exists by nature. There are three refutations to this: Because the dependent dharma does not exist by nature, the existence of the dependent by nature is refuted. The basis of inversion being established by nature is refuted. The arising of inversion by nature is refuted. First, the actions, agents, and objects of action that have become limbs of clinging have already been said to not exist by nature, therefore, whether the clinging to what is inverted or to what is true, that is, not inverted, is not naturally existent, then, as for the basis, the person, which is inverted and which is not inverted, does it exist by nature or not? Second, furthermore, if it is thought that inversion is the basis of a person, then it will not go beyond the three cases of having already become inverted, etc., and even if it has already become inverted, inversion itself cannot exist by nature, and if it does, then it must have an inversion that is different from the inversion that is posited as the one who clings to inversion, because the latter does not need the former. For a person who has not become inverted, inversion is impossible, because it would follow that the Buddha also has inversion. For the case of becoming inverted, it is impossible for the nature of inversion to be established, because the nature of inversion does not exist except for the action of inversion being destroyed and unborn, and also the case of becoming partly inverted and partly not inverted does not go beyond the faults of the first two examinations. Therefore, if the basis of inversion does not have the nature of inversion in any of the three times of past, present, and future, then on what basis would the nature of inversion exist? Please discern for yourself with an impartial mind. Third, furthermore, if inversions are not born by nature, then how could they become naturally existent? They will not. If inversions are not born by nature, then how could a person with inversions be established by nature? They will not. Not by nature
