2. Even if continuity is accepted, it is impossible to avoid permanence and annihilation, and it is shown that continuity itself is not established by its own nature. First: If the continuity of the arising of the effect and the destruction of the cause is existence, then the moment of the cause's destruction, that is, after performing the action of producing the effect, ceases, because there is no further arising, so the continuity of the cause becomes the fault of annihilation. If things are considered to be established by their own characteristics, then the effect will become something else that does not depend on the cause. Even if the effect arises, it does not help the continuity of the cause not being interrupted, and since there is no continuity of arising again after the cause ceases, the continuity of the cause will be annihilated. We do not have that fault, because we do not admit that things are established by their own nature. Because in the manner of "depending on what, what arises," the cause that arises dependently, by its very reason, neither one nor different of the two, cause and effect, are established in their own essence. If one admits that things are established by their own nature, it will also become permanent, if things exist by their own nature, then they will not disappear later, because there is no reversal in nature, so the fault of permanence is there. Those reasons are that if things exist by their own nature, then the effect cannot arise from the previous cause, and the cause cannot disappear at the time of the effect, so through these two points it is impossible to avoid permanence and annihilation. Furthermore, according to your view, at the time of nirvana without remainder, existence, that is, the continuity of the aggregates, is naturally pacified, that is, annihilated, then it will become the fault of annihilation, but Shakyamuni Buddha said that the view of annihilation should be abandoned. If you think that clinging to such a continuity as annihilation is not a view of annihilation, then in the case of samsara, such a clinging will not be a view of annihilation, because the reasons are the same. Second: The continuity of existence that the other party spoke of as before is not self-existent, which is unreasonable. How is it? Here, the last existence is the last mind of this life, that is, the death-existence, and the first existence is the mind of the linking of the next life. That last one that is disappearing exists as the cause, and the first one exists as the effect, and those two existences are called samsara. So, does the first existence arise from the last existence disappearing, not disappearing, or disappearing?

Now, if it is said that when the last existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་ཐ་མ།) has ceased, it is unreasonable for the mind of the first existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་དང་པོ།) to arise from that cessation. Because when one's own cause ceases before oneself, then there is no cause at that time. If it is said that sprouts can also grow from burnt seeds, that is also not desirable. The phrase "when the last existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་ཐ་མ།) has not ceased" means that what is ceasing (Tibetan: འགག་བཞིན།) is described separately, so it does not refer to the cessation of the existence of death (Tibetan: འཆི་སྲིད།). Even if there is no such situation, it is still refuted by grasping the extreme of investigation. It is unreasonable for the first existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་དང་པོ།) to arise from that cessation, because if it arises, there will be many faults. Among them, the fault of having no cause is that if the first mind of the next life arises at the time when the existence of death (Tibetan: འཆི་སྲིད།) has not manifested cessation, then these two minds will exist simultaneously, and thus it will not be caused by a cause. One sentient being has two natures, which means that the last mind of this life and the first mind of the next life exist simultaneously. The appearance of a sentient being that did not exist before means that before the sentient being that is being born, the sentient being that became its own cause did not appear before. The fault of the previous mind being permanent is that the previous mind remains until the next mind of the same continuum arises. The fault of saying that sprouts can grow from seeds that have not decayed is that sprouts grow when the seeds have not completely transformed. If it is said that the last existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་ཐ་མ།) is ceasing (Tibetan: འགག་བཞིན།), that is, when the cessation is manifested, the first mind of the next life will arise naturally, then one sentient being will simultaneously have two incompatible existences (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ།). For example, if a person dies and is born as a god, the existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ།) of the person who is ceasing (Tibetan: འགག་བཞིན།) becomes one, and the existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ།) of the intermediate state of the god who is being born also becomes another existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ།). If it arises by its own nature, then the result of being born (Tibetan: སྐྱེ་བཞིན།) exists at the time when the cause is ceasing (Tibetan: འགག་བཞིན།), which has been explained before. Thirdly, as explained before, if the ceaser who is ceasing (Tibetan: འགག་བཞིན།) and the one who is being born (Tibetan: སྐྱེ་བཞིན།) cannot exist simultaneously, and the first existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་དང་པོ།) cannot arise from the cessation of the last existence (Tibetan: སྲིད་པ་ཐ་མ།) and the unceased state that has not manifested cessation, which is implied by the word "also", then, on which aggregates (Tibetan: ཕུང་པོ།) does one dwell and die, and those aggregates (Tibetan: ཕུང་པོ།) themselves will naturally arise
