If destruction exists by its own nature, then destruction is arising, that is, existing without birth, or not existing by its own nature simultaneously with arising. Arising does not exist without destruction, or does not exist by its own nature simultaneously with destruction, these are the four commitments. The second part is divided into two parts: refuting whether destruction and arising exist simultaneously, and refuting whether arising and destruction exist simultaneously. The first part is: destruction is arising, that is, it is impossible to exist without birth. If it exists like this, then it is without birth, that is, it will die before being born, which no one has ever seen. Therefore, destruction does not exist without arising. The destruction of things is simultaneous with arising, that is, at the same time, how can it be self-existent? This is impossible. If it is like this, then death and birth exist simultaneously by their own nature, then this is not existence, because they are contradictory, like light and darkness. The way they contradict each other is as explained in the eleventh chapter before, or like a sprout, the two times of arising and ceasing are like light and darkness, and if arising and ceasing are established by their own characteristics, then the cessation of the sprout is the dharma of the sprout, and the sprout is the dharmata, which has no change in its own nature, so it must change at all times, so arising and ceasing are at the same time, then both arising and ceasing are also at the same time. The remaining analysis of destruction has already been said in the seventh chapter, so it will not be repeated. Here, in the "Lamp of Wisdom," it is said that destruction has a cause, because it is the nature of conditioned phenomena, just like arising. This is the view of some Śrāvakayāna schools. Regarding this, the fault of the two-faulted reason is: the destruction of wisdom, sound, the last flame, the last mind and mental factors of an Arhat are the nature of conditioned phenomena, but they are not caused, so they are uncertain. In response, the "Clear Words" says: The destruction of these is also caused by the conditions of arising, so it has a cause. And, the destruction of the last moment of wisdom, etc., also needs to prove that destruction is not without cause, which is the same as what needs to be proven.

It is said, "Originally uncertain." This refers to the fact that something previously destroyed is destroyed again, and this is also the view of the sect that considers the shadow of the moon to be a real thing. In the "Lamp of Wisdom," it is also said as before, and below it says that things that have been destroyed and disappeared have no cause, because they no longer exist. For example, like something that never existed at all. This is the view of the sect that does not consider destruction to be a real thing. Therefore, although destruction is a characteristic of conditioned phenomena, saying that there is no cause is based on the other party's commitment and is not one's own view. Like arising, the reason why the example is not established is shown, because the nature of things arises from what has not arisen before, so obtaining its own nature is called arising. The arising mentioned in the characteristics of conditioned phenomena is that the other party promises to produce different entities from the basis of things such as vases. Since such a situation is not established, arising is not established as having a cause. In the "Lamp of Wisdom," to prove that the example is not established, it is listed that arising is not established as a substance. In the "Clear Words," since all existing things are established as arising, the two previously proposed views are not contradictory. The former means as previously stated, and the latter means that it is merely establishing the view that the other party considers arising to be a substance. In the "Clear Words," the reason why it is unreasonable to explain that the example is not established is that things such as images that do not exist in substance are also promised to have causes. Even if arising denies substantial existence, it cannot prove that arising does not have a cause, and this is the reason. Second, how can arising exist without destruction? It will not exist. If it exists in that way, things must be separated from destruction, because things will never be without impermanence. How can arising and destruction be inherently existent at the same time? It will not be. If so, if arising and death occur at the same time, then it does not exist. This has been said before. Third, those things that exist simultaneously or do not exist simultaneously with each other, the arising and destruction that are not inherently existent, are not inherently established.
