Firstly, among the three—the object to be seen (form), the seer (eye), and the one who sees (consciousness)—pairs such as eye and form, eye and consciousness, or consciousness and form, and moreover, all three together, do not inherently exist as things that can simultaneously meet each other. Just as it was explained for the three, such as the seer, similarly, desire and attachment, or desire and the object of attachment, or attachment and the object of attachment, these pairs, and all three together, should be regarded as not simultaneously meeting each other. Likewise, as previously stated, the remaining afflictions such as hatred and delusion, and the remaining sources of arising such as the listener, the one who listens, and the object to be listened to, when combined in three ways, the pairs and all three meeting each other do not inherently exist. The second part has two sections: refuting meeting due to the other not existing inherently; and refuting meeting by examining oneness and otherness. The first has three parts: stating the proposition; applying this principle to others; and establishing the reason. The first is: If meeting were to inherently exist, then each other would also have to inherently exist as separate entities, thus establishing the reverse pervasion. Why? Because the other in things like the object to be seen does not inherently exist, therefore, meeting in them does not inherently exist, thus stating the commitment. The second is: Furthermore, not only do things like the object to be seen, which exist as cause and effect, lack inherent otherness, but also any object like a pot or a cloth, together with any companion, cannot reasonably exist inherently as separate entities. Therefore, meeting in them is also not inherently existent, thus implying that the intention is to show that meeting in all things is not inherently existent. The third part has two sections: stating the reason and refuting faults. The first is: When we say that a pot is different from a cloth, that difference is established by relying on the cloth. If the pot did not need to rely on the cloth, then the pot would not be different from the cloth, thus establishing that all establishments of difference must rely on the other, which has already been established.

Therefore, it is generally stated that whatever exists in dependence on something should not be inherently different from that which serves as the basis. Then, this is applied to specific things: the reason why a pot is different from cloth is also because it depends on the cloth, so it is not essentially different from the cloth. The second part is divided into two points: eliminating the fault of uncertainty, and eliminating the fault of non-establishment. The first point is: if the pot is different from the cloth, both dependent on the cloth and relying on the cloth, and also essentially different, what is the problem? If the pot as "other" is essentially different from the cloth as "other," then, in this case, even without relying on the cloth as "other," the term "different from cloth" could be used for the pot alone, which is not seen. These two situations, depending on the cloth and not depending on the cloth, are directly contradictory. The pot is different from the cloth, dependent on the cloth, and if this "other" is established by its own essence, then it will be independently established by its own essence, which contradicts dependence on others. This is not a matter of course, because there is no situation where the pot becomes different from the cloth without depending on the cloth as "other." Therefore, the pot is not essentially different from the cloth, this is a refutation. These reasons are stated in the Hundred Treatises: "What arises in dependence on what, does not become autonomous. All of this is without autonomy, therefore I am not existent." Here it is explained that "I" refers to the self-nature that is established by its own essence. Here, as stated in the commentary, the pot is different from the cloth, dependent on the cloth, while the establishment of the pot's essence is not dependent on the cloth, therefore, the difference between dependence and non-dependence must be distinguished. The uncommon reasoning that runs through the beginning and the end is a difficult point, so it must be repeatedly contemplated. If you do not admit any "other" at all, then how can it be said that "the other depends on the other to be the other"? Because this is the "other" that is established by mutual dependence, it abides in worldly names, and therefore it is called "other." Buddhapālita also said: "Because of worldly names, it is the other." Here, the commentary says: "Worldly common
