The reasoning that previous actions can accomplish has already been explained, and no other reasoning has been mentioned. Thus, when the two, "I" and "mine," are determined to be without inherent existence, the emptiness that is completely contrary to the root of samsara—the clinging to the view of the perishable aggregate (འཇིག་ལྟ་, Sanskrit: satkāya-dṛṣṭi, IAST: satkāya-dṛṣṭi, meaning: view of the existing body)—will be comprehended, so there is no need to say more here. The second (part) has two divisions: the order of reversing faults and the way to attain liberation. The first (part) has three divisions: the way to reverse the view of the perishable aggregate, refuting arguments against it, and the way to exhaust birth by exhausting taking. The first (part) is: Thus, having found the view that "I" and "mine" are determined to be without inherent existence, by constantly meditating on it, the object of clinging to "I," the person, and the object of clinging to "mine," the aggregates, their characteristics are pacified, that is, nothing appears, and the object and subject become of one taste. Therefore, the yogi abandons and eliminates the view of the perishable aggregate that clings to "I" as inherently existent and "mine" as inherently existent, because the view and what is to be abandoned are of the same object but have opposing ways of clinging, and the former has entered the correct meaning. The way to practice this (view), and the way to cultivate calm abiding and insight, have already been extensively explained in the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, so there is no need to elaborate here. The second (part) is: If that is the case, there is a yogi who abandons the clinging to "I" and "mine," and if that is the case, do "I" and the aggregates exist by their own nature? The answer is, "I" and "mine" have already been said to be without inherent existence, and if that is the case, there is no other clinging to "I" and "mine" other than these, that is, the yogi who is the abandoner is also not existent by nature. Whoever sees that the yogi who abandons the clinging to "I" and "mine" exists by nature does not see the meaning of suchness and cannot abandon the view of the perishable aggregate that clings to "I" and "mine." As it is said in the sutra: Look at the emptiness of the inner self, Look at the emptiness of outer things as well, Whoever meditates on emptiness, That one does not exist at all. And as it is also said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: Those who think of the Dharma of peace and great peace, That thought is never produced. The aggregates are empty of inherent existence, Enlightenment is empty of inherent existence,

My actions are also empty in nature, only the wise can understand, not children. Third, as such, because there is no attachment to self and what belongs to self, the two attachments of inner self and outer self, if the mundane view of self and what belongs to self is extinguished, then the four attachments will also cease. Because all afflictions are rooted in the mundane view, arise from the mundane view, and are caused by the mundane view. The four attachments are desire attachment, view attachment, precept and vow attachment, and self-assertion attachment. They are respectively the desire for sensual pleasures such as form and sound, and various wrong views other than the mundane view, evil precepts and vows related to wrong views, and the greed and attachment that arise from clinging to the four views of the aggregate of destruction. If these attachments are extinguished, then the cycle of rebirth caused by karma will also cease. Second, because the order of cessation of rebirth is as previously stated, therefore, liberation can be attained by the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. If attachment is exhausted, then the cycle of existence, which is conditioned by it, will not arise, and if both karma and afflictions are exhausted, then birth, old age, sickness, and death will also cease. Then, one might think, by what means can karma and afflictions be exhausted? The karma of rebirth in samsara arises from afflictions, and afflictions also arise from the non-rational conceptual thoughts of suffering and pleasure and inversion, and do not exist by their own nature. These non-rational conceptual thoughts arise from the various elaborations of clinging to knowledge and objects of knowledge, speaker and spoken, vase and cloth, man and woman, and gain and loss, etc., as being true, from beginningless habituation. And the elaboration of clinging to truth can be stopped by habituating to seeing these objects as emptiness. Therefore, emptiness is the only truth, and by practicing its view, one can realize it. When practice reaches the end, when the seeds of afflictions are exhausted, the emptiness itself, in which elaborations are completely stopped, is called liberation and nirvana. The Hundred Treatises says: "In short, the Dharma is non-harming, as spoken by the Tathagatas. Emptiness is nirvana, here only these two." Just as it is said. The Lamp on Wisdom says: "Because that ceases, birth ceases, and so on.
