Because it prevents the self-existence of the agent, action, afflictions, and their results, as well as the enjoyer, etc. Since self-existence is established, any establishment of them is unreasonable. Just like dreams, illusions, emanations, and Gandharva cities, although empty by self-existence, but only appearing as such, the agent, etc., are most reasonable, and should be understood as such. The "Examination of Action," which is the nature of thirty-three verses, is the commentary on the seventeenth chapter. Third, there are three ways to enter the suchness of selflessness: explaining the tenets of the treatise, combining it with definitive meaning scriptures, and summarizing the meaning and indicating the name. The first part has five: the way to enter suchness, eliminating contradictions with the scriptures, the order of leading into suchness, the definition of suchness, and showing that it is necessary to definitely realize this meaning. The first part has two: establishing the view of suchness, and the order of reversing faults by meditating on it. The first part is: Here it is said, if afflictions and actions, etc., are like Gandharva cities, etc., although not suchness, but for children, they appear as the aspect of suchness, then, what is suchness here? And how to enter suchness? Because internal and external objects are not perceived, therefore, the grasping of self and self-belonging internally and externally is exhausted in all aspects, this is suchness. The extensive explanation of entering suchness is as stated in the "Entering the Middle Way": All afflictions and faults arise from the aggregate of destruction, arising from views, the wise have understood, I am the object of this, the yogi should, prevent this self. It should be understood as such, and here only the aspect of the root is explained. There are two here: preventing the self-existence of self, and showing that by this also prevents the self-existence of self-belonging. The first part has two: the way a liberation seeker first examines, and then the way to establish the view of selflessness. The first part is: According to the order of the truth of suffering, the first of the four truths, when first meditating on the many faults of the general and specific aspects of samsara, the yogi wants to enter suchness and

The faults of birth, such as birth, old age, sickness, and death, and all the defilements of faults, such as desire, are desired to be abandoned. At that time, seeing that if the cause is not reversed, the result will not be reversed, one will contemplate what the root of this cycle of existence is. Upon investigation, it is seen that the cycle of existence has the root of the view of the perishable, and it is seen that by abandoning it, all defilements and faults will be reversed. So, how can the view of the perishable be abandoned? In general, all treatises first point out the harm of the object held by the inverted mind, and then reverse the holding of that object. In particular, in this treatise, it is examined whether the self held by the view of the perishable is one with or different from the aggregates, and where it exists. By refuting the object, the holding of self and what belongs to self is reversed. As it is also said in the Hundred Treatises: "If one sees no self in the object, then the seed of existence will also cease." That is to say, one must see that the self held by the holding of self does not exist, and thus be liberated from bondage. As it is also said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "If this object is not refuted, then it cannot be abandoned." Therefore, all the great chariots have the same view and voice on this matter. Therefore, if one does not understand how the holding of self holds the self, and how to refute the held self well with immaculate reason, but only gets used to withdrawing from the holding of self and what belongs to self in the mind, it is unreasonable to want to be liberated from the cycle of existence. Because this does not touch the object of the holding of self, the self, nor does it enter the meaning of no self, so even if one gets used to doing this, it will not harm the holding of self in any way. If this is the case, then even if one does not find an unerroneous view, one can still meditate on the meaning of Suchness, so all the statements in the scriptures and treatises about establishing the view of Suchness will become meaningless. Even if it is like this at the time of hearing and thinking, one cannot say that it is not necessary to be like this at the time of meditation, because what is established by hearing and thinking is precisely for the purpose of making the mind familiar with the view at the time of meditation. And, it is also said in the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra: "The yogi should prevent the self." That is to say, the yogi should do so. Therefore, abandoning the view of the perishable is to abandon the object held by it.
