Exists or does not exist? If the result of karma does not exist by its own nature, then how can its enjoyer exist by its own nature? It should be known that all these are not self-existent. Thirdly, if you assert that all phenomena are without self-nature, then everything the Blessed One said about experiencing the maturation of one's own actions will be negated by this view. Because of denigrating karma and its effects, you have become the leader of the nihilistic view. If so, we are not nihilists, but rather we prevent the assertion of existence and non-existence, and clarify the path of non-duality that leads to the city of liberation. Among them, the way to eliminate nihilism is that we do not say that karma and its effects do not exist. What then do we say? We say that these are without self-nature, which is the way to eliminate the extreme of existence. In this way, if we say that karma and its effects exist nominally, but say that they do not exist, then we fall into the extreme of annihilation; if we say that they exist by their own nature, then we are shown to fall into the extreme of permanence, and not just saying existence or non-existence. If it is argued that because there is no self-nature, actions and functions are unreasonable, and the fault remains. Even if we answer that we are not saying that it does not exist, but that it has no self-nature, the fault of the unreasonableness of karma and its effects still remains. The answer to this is that because we have not seen actions in things with self-nature, and only in things without self-nature do we see actions. In this way, only when a pot becomes without self-nature can it be seen to perform its function in the world. Therefore, if there is self-nature, then all actions and functions such as the producer and the produced are unreasonable, and only when there is no self-nature are these actions and functions reasonable. The reasons for preventing the self-existence of karma and its effects are that non-self-existence is the companion of the reasonableness of all actions and functions, and not that actions and functions are prevented by it, which should be understood in all cases. Furthermore, the meaning of being able to act without self-nature must be understood from this clear example. For example, the Blessed One emanates an emanation with perfect miraculous power, and that emanation in turn emanates another emanation, these two emanations, the Thus-Gone One.

Just as acting without inherent existence is done to them as they are empty of inherent existence and without inherent existence, and the terms "action" and "agent" are used, similarly, the agent of action is empty of inherent existence like an illusion. Whatever small action that agent does is also empty of inherent existence, just as an illusionist conjures another illusion. Therefore, how could those Madhyamikas who speak of non-duality have the wrong view of permanence or annihilation? Also, in the Samadhiraja Sutra it says: "When the Sugatas teach various discourses, the Protector descends to the world out of compassion for beings. The Buddhas conjure up various emanations there, and teach them the excellent Dharma. Hundreds of thousands of beings hear this, and aspire to the supreme wisdom of the Buddha, thinking, 'When will I attain such wisdom?' Knowing their thoughts, the Buddhas prophesy to them. Whoever invites the Buddha, the king of men, their generosity will become limitless, and they will obtain inconceivable excellent things. Some people thus develop faith in the Dharma." Like that. Not only the example of illusion, but also through these other examples, it should be understood that action is possible without inherent existence. Afflictions such as attachment that afflict the mind-stream, as well as merit, non-merit, and unwavering karma, as well as the body, and the agent self, as well as the ripening of karmic results, and the owner, and the similar cause, all of these should be understood as being without inherent existence, like a city of gandharvas, like mirages and dreams. Therefore, because we do not accept that things are established by their own characteristics, it should be understood that only the Madhyamikas do not have the assertion of the two extremes of permanence and annihilation. Secondly, that karma and afflictions and so on are empty because they exist by their own nature is also established by profound scriptures, and in order to show that all the scriptures that teach in this way will be explained by this treatise, only a small aspect of the connection with the definitive meaning scriptures is mentioned. In the Ratnakuta Sutra it says: "Two emanation monks subdued five hundred monks with signs, like telling the end of such an event." Thirdly, the reasoning of this treatise.
