Because people in the world say that changing from a state of destruction to another state means that the previous thing no longer exists. Here, for the object to be negated, even for the non-existent non-entity of the knowable, its truth must also be negated. However, due to the difference in the degree of attachment to truth regarding the existence or non-existence of the object to be negated, if the object to be negated, i.e., the existing entity, is destroyed, and its non-entity is established as untrue, then other non-entities can be easily established as untrue, which is his intention. Third, like this, for self-nature, other-entity, entity, and non-entity not established by self-nature, those who claim to be able to correctly explain the scriptures, with "the self-nature of earth is hardness, and the self-nature of feeling is experiencing objects," etc., regard self-nature and other-entity as two, and consciousness, etc., existing now as entities, while those past, etc., are non-entities, believing that they exist by self-nature, those people have not seen and proclaimed the most profound reality of dependent origination in the teachings of the Buddha, the World Honored One. Like this, self-nature, etc., existing by self-nature is contrary to reason, and the Buddhas do not think that the self-nature of things is contrary to reason, because they have truly realized the reality of all things. Therefore, wise people only take the Buddha's words as the standard, because it is reasonable and does not deceive people. Explaining from the Sanskrit vocabulary of the scriptures, because it comes from believing that all faults have been eliminated, it is scripture; universal understanding, that is, because it can universally understand reality, it is scripture; manifestly tending, that is, relying on it, the world can be liberated from suffering, therefore the words of the fully enlightened Buddha are established as scripture, while other treatises, because they are unreasonable, are established as non-scripture. The second part is divided into two parts: the harm of scripture and the harm of reasoning. The first part: Because believing that self-nature, other-entity, entity, and non-entity exist by self-nature is contrary to reason, so it is not reality, therefore, for those tamable beings who want to be liberated from samsara, the World Honored One said in my sutra a sutra called "Katyayana's Instruction," Katyayana, because this world mostly

Clinging to existence and non-existence, therefore, one cannot be completely liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and turmoil, and one cannot be completely liberated from the suffering of death's agony. Therefore, (the Buddha) also refuted both extremes of existence and non-existence. This sutra is also recited by all schools, and therefore, according to this sutra and the reasoning as stated, we do not accept that the four, such as self-nature, exist inherently. What is the special excellence of the Blessed One? It is that he knows the nature of things and non-things without error. The second point is, furthermore, if fire and so on exist by their own nature, then the nature of existing by its own nature will not become non-existent through changing into something else again. Because it is never reasonable for something that exists by its own nature to change into something else, just as the unobscured nature of the sky never changes into something else. Also, because it is the nature of change, it is not self-nature like the heat of water. If it is said that things are not self-existent because there is no other change for what exists by its own nature, and also other changes are observed, then even if it is not self-existent, to whom does the change into something else belong? Therefore, for things that are not self-existent, other changes are unreasonable, and this is also seen, so things are self-existent. If it is said in this way, even if self-nature exists by its own essence, how can it change into something else? It cannot change. In the treatise of Buddhapalita, the first two lines negate the existence of things that change because they do not have self-nature, and the last two lines negate that things that exist by their own nature cannot change, thus negating that things are self-existent, and all four lines are his own view. Here, the commentary says that because other changes are seen, it is not self-existent, and this is also said in terms of seeing other changes known to others. We have never admitted that anything has other changes. It was said before that you also observe that things like fire, which exist by their own nature, change into something else.
