Because the destroyer and the destroyed cannot exist at the same time. Secondly, if it is said that although it is not that the present itself causes that present and other presents cause other destructions, but for the present of milk, because there is destruction, there will also be birth, then, when it is explained in the way previously stated that the self-nature of all dharmas is not reasonable to arise, is it not very clearly stated that the self-nature of all dharmas is also not reasonable to cease? Buddhapālita said that destruction exists because it is taken from the previous one, and when the previous thing is destroyed, birth is not reasonable. When this is said, it is to answer the refutation of birth from the cause of destruction, so this treatise is expounded. Fourthly, also, if destruction exists by its own nature, then things will not go beyond existence and non-existence, and for things that exist temporarily, self-nature destruction is not reasonable, because if things like a pot and that destroyed thing do not exist as one, then it is unreasonable. Here, destruction is a dharma that depends on things, so if destruction exists by its own nature, then when the pot is destroyed, it must also depend on the pot. Or, just like mutually contradictory light and darkness, it is unreasonable for things to exist and not exist. For something that has become non-existent, destruction is also unreasonable, because it is not existent, just as for something that does not have two heads, it is not possible to cut off those two heads. Because it is generally believed that there are no two heads, even if it is not said that it does not actually exist, the statement will be complete, so it is not written "does not exist." Fifthly, also, if destruction causes things to be destroyed, then the destroyer will not go beyond itself and others, and destruction does not exist by its own nature, just as birth is not produced by itself, because it is the same for this. The verse says: 'The destroyed is not destroyed by the undestroyed, how can it destroy its own nature? If the destroyed can destroy, what is there to destroy after it is destroyed?' This is a translation of the verse. Destruction is also not caused by something different from itself, just as birth is not born from a birth different from itself.

Because that is the reason. If another destruction, then that destruction would have no end. If that which does not destroy is destroyed, then everything will be destroyed in the same way. That is how it is translated. If you examine and analyze in this way, it is not reasonable in any way for birth, abiding, and destruction to exist by their own nature. If it is not reasonable, then how can it become the characteristic of conditioned phenomena as existing by their own nature? Secondly, if you analyze and examine in that way, then destruction should not be reasonable in your system either. Therefore, if something becomes a fault for both, then it should not be used to refute the other, if you think so. In response to this, the Madhyamika says that because they accept worldly terms, the fault attributed to the opponent is not the same as their own. The way to distinguish worldly terms is that things are without self-nature, and that itself is the path of names for those children who are attached to things as true. The way to proceed is that, apart from merely applying the name of destruction, one searches for the place of application, such as where the past and future are. For the meaning that is found, one establishes it as destruction. In that kind of way, without examining or searching, one applies the name of destruction to the meaning that is established. Moreover, worldly things, like illusions and so on, are devoid of the reason or logical proof for examining whether they are established or not established as they are. They are established for the world whose eye of wisdom is obscured by the darkness of ignorance. Therefore, the fact that they are established merely in dependence on each other is accepted by children. Therefore, if there is something to be produced, then there is a producer, and if there is a producer, then there is something to be produced. And if cessation exists, then there is something to be ceased, that is, the object of cessation. If the cause of cessation and the object of cessation, that is, the object of cessation, exist, then cessation exists. Similarly, the Madhyamika also accepts this, but it is not that they establish destruction and so on for the meaning that is found after examination. In short, if things are examined as described before, then birth, destruction, and abiding cannot be found, and this is the same for us. However, this does not refute the birth, destruction, and so on that we accept, because we do not consider birth, destruction, and so on to be able to withstand examination as described before, and if we accept something, we must consider it to be able to withstand examination and to exist by its own nature.
