at the time of. Buddhapalita previously stated: "For the moment, existence and non-existence as well." In the case of these two lines (verses), it is said that if there is existence, then birth is meaningless, and if there is non-existence, then even rabbit horns will be born. Therefore, in order to refute the birth of both existence and non-existence, an explanation is given. Or, in the case of "When the Dharma is existent," etc., two explanations are made. Third, furthermore, if one observes this birth, it will not exceed two situations. If one observes a thing that is in the process of decay, that is, the present that is facing decay, then for it, it is not reasonable to arise again, because it is existent. If one observes the past and the future, which are not in the process of decay, that is, are separated from decay, then for it, there is also no self-nature birth, because it is not reasonable to be a thing, because the characteristic of a thing is to be separated from decay. This refers to a broken pot and a future pot, which do not exist in the thing of the pot, and it is not that these two are considered unable to function, which will be explained later. In this way, the past and the future should also be understood. To this, Buddhapalita said: "You produce a thing that is in the process of arising." Because a thing that is in the process of arising must also have decay, because a thing is characterized by decay. If this is admitted, then for a thing that is in the process of decay, arising is not reasonable, because what is in the process of arising is increasing, and what is in the process of decay is decreasing. If it is thought that when a fruit is in the process of arising, the fruit is not in the process of decay, then if a thing is in the process of arising and does not decay, then that thing that is in the process of arising is not a thing, because there is no decay, so there is no characteristic of a thing. If this is admitted, then it is not reasonable to say "produce a thing that is in the process of arising," but it will become saying "produce a non-thing that is in the process of arising." Second, if the arising of things is self-nature existent, because existence is self-nature existent. If existence has birth, then it is a Dharma with existence, and if it does not, then it is without existence. Therefore, because existence is existent, birth is existent. If this is thought, then in order to refute this, there are three ways: refuting by observing from the three aspects of time; refuting by observing from whether it is in the process of decay; refuting by observing from whether there is another existent being.

Furthermore, refuting (permanence). Firstly, if existence is inherently existent, it will not exceed three cases: a thing that has already dwelt, the past does not dwell. At that time, the past is because the function of dwelling has ceased. A thing that does not dwell, the future will also not dwell, because at that time the future thing is separated from the function of dwelling. A thing that is dwelling also does not dwell, because apart from the former two, the thing that is dwelling itself does not exist, and if the thing that is dwelling dwells, then the function of dwelling will become two, therefore the dweller will also become two. Furthermore, birth being inherently existent has already been refuted, because that does not exist, for a thing that is inherently unborn, how can dwelling be inherently existent? It will not be. Secondly, furthermore, if we examine this dwelling, it will not exceed two cases: a thing that is decaying, manifesting towards decay itself, then dwelling being inherently existent is not reasonable, because the functions of dwelling and decay are contradictory. If it is thought that at the time of dwelling it is not decaying, then whatever is not decaying should not be a thing, therefore for such a thing, how can dwelling be inherently existent? Furthermore, all things are aging at all times, that is, changing, and dying, that is, decaying, are of a nature that does not let go even for a moment, then for which things will dwelling be inherently existent? There is no thing that does not age and die and dwells. Here, whether it is permanent or momentary, from the time of its self-establishment, dwelling in the second time does not even exist in name. Therefore, the moment spoken of as the characteristic of impermanence does not mean that from the time of its self-establishment, it does not stay in the second time, but rather that it does not stay for a moment, this is not the meaning of momentariness. Therefore, the completion of a year requires the completion of twelve months, and after that, that year no longer dwells, therefore all permanence is also a moment that does not stay in the second time from the time of its self-establishment. For example, although the impermanence distinguished by sound does not pervade a pot, impermanence pervades both sound and pot in the same way. Although the pot that existed in the previous time does not exist in the later time, it is not contradictory that the pot dwells in the previous and later two times. Therefore, such dwelling and all things themselves
