Since it is said to be non-dual, how can it be clearly shown that samsara does not exist by its own nature? Here, saying that samsara has no beginning and no end is not only what you say, but also that there are no previous and subsequent parts, which refers to the fact that it does not exist in the ultimate sense. As Buddhapalita said, "In terms of showing the ultimate truth, it has no beginning and no end." Therefore, the previous statement in the Clear Words Commentary is not contradictory. If you ask, "Can the beginning and end be seen?" and answer, "They cannot be seen," how can this be used as an argument for the non-self-existence of samsara in the conventional truth? This is as stated in the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning: "If a bhikshu whose afflictions are exhausted, if samsara completely ceases, then why do the perfectly enlightened Buddhas not speak of its initial cause?" This means that if the samsara of aggregates that are established by their own characteristics has an end of cessation, then there is no reason not to speak of the initial cause, which is similar to the reasoning of saying that there is a beginning. If the teacher prohibits the beginning and end of samsara, then teaching you, "Bhikshus, therefore you should diligently exhaust samsara," contradicts saying that there is an end of exhaustion, doesn't it? It is not contradictory, because in the sutra quoted earlier, it is distinguished by "having ignorance," etc., only to show that the samsara of those beings has no end, while for those who have completely abandoned all afflictions, there is an end of exhaustion. If you think that it is not contradictory for things without a beginning to have an end, is it not contradictory? It is not contradictory, as stated in the Hundred Treatises: "Just as a seed sees its end, but it has no beginning. Similarly, because the cause is not complete, birth will not occur." Just as a seed has no beginning, but has an end after being burned by fire, for birth, although there is no beginning, but after the afflictions are exhausted, the cause is not complete, and later, because of the afflictions, the end of the exhaustion of birth exists. Here, if we consider the nature of things from the perspective of thinking, it is the same that there is neither beginning nor end, but in the conventional truth, the existence or non-existence of beginning and end is different. If you say that although the beginning and end of samsara are not established by their own nature, the middle exists by its own nature because it is not prohibited, is it? For which samsara is there a beg

Since there is no self-nature of beginning and end, how can there be a self-nature of the middle established? So there isn't. Therefore, samsara is like the sky, because it is devoid of the self-nature of beginning, middle, and end, it is merely a name, like a revolving fire wheel and so on. Here, Buddhapālita says: "Beginning, middle, and end, are impossible before arising. If not two by two, how can one by one create?" Quoting from the *Śataśāstra*, the three of beginning, middle, and end are the three of arising, ceasing, and abiding. Since arising and ceasing have no self-nature, therefore abiding has no self-nature, meaning that there is no beginning and end, so there is no middle. Therefore, samsara is not self-existent, so the samsaric being is not self-existent either. The second part has three points: briefly stating, elaborating, and summarizing the points. The first point is: Samsara has no three self-natures of beginning, middle, and end, therefore, for the birth, aging, and death of samsaric beings, there cannot be a self-existent temporal order of before and after, and simultaneously. Our own school says that sentient beings revolve and flow continuously from beginningless to endless. According to this statement, it is believed that there are sentient beings who are born and die, and thus it is asserted that the person has self-existence. Regarding this statement, it has already been proven that merely saying that there is no beginning and end does not establish that the cycle of birth and death is self-existent. Here, it is to show that if birth and death are self-existent, then they cannot exceed the three times of past, present, and future, thereby negating these three times. Generally, all conditioned phenomena have birth and aging, as previously stated: "All things at all times are subject to the law of aging and death." Although cessation is also called death, the temporal order of cause and effect, etc., of non-sentient beings is explained in other contexts, here it refers to the perspective of sentient beings. The terms death and dying should also be combined with specific situations. The basis for judging before and after and simultaneously is not the first, middle, and last birth, aging, and death of Devadatta, but rather a general coverage of these three. The second part has two points: negating before and after, negating simultaneously. The first point has two points: birth
