Okay. However, if the viewer and the listener are considered to be the same person, then the faults mentioned earlier will occur. If the viewer, the listener, and the feeler are considered to be different in their own nature, then when there is a viewer, there will also be a listener immediately, but this is not desirable, so they are not different in their own nature. Also, if it is thought as before, then one person will have many selves, because the viewer and so on are different in their own nature. The third case is: if I say that I exist before all seeing and so on. However, there is no fault of not having a cause to be called 'I', because in the stage of name and form before seeing and so on, it is said in the sutras that due to the cause of name and form, the six sense bases arise, so there are the four great elements that are the cause of the arising of seeing and hearing and so on. Therefore, if it is said that before seeing and so on, there is a self that has the four great elements as its proximate cause, then, for the four great elements from which seeing and hearing and so on and feeling and so on arise, that self is also not existent by its own nature. If that self is existent by its own nature, then since it is later than or simultaneous with the four great elements, it is unreasonable for the four great elements to be the proximate cause, so it will exist before the four great elements. If so, then the faults of not having a cause to be called 'I' and so on will appear as mentioned before, so the faults are not repeated here. The second part is divided into two parts: the way of establishing the self, and the refutation of the arguments against it. The first part is: if in this way the person who exists by his own nature is prevented, then is it not unreasonable to think that the name of the person who sees and hears and so on is unreasonable? Because the person who does seeing and hearing and so on cannot be denied by anyone, so it is not right to be completely absent. To this, other schools must undoubtedly admit the person who sees and so on, however, they think that it is not right for the aggregates and the self-nature to be the same, so they think that there is a self of a person who is different in nature from the aggregates. Other schools of one's own think that it is necessary to establish a person who accumulates karma and so on, and seeing that there are factors that harm the existence of a self that is different in nature from the aggregates, they establish the continuum of the collection of aggregates and the consciousness that abandons and takes the body.

Therefore, they say that "I" is "self" or "person." As for our own system, the object of the innate ego-grasping must be posited as I, self, and person. Since outsiders do not accept that there is a person as they assume, even for animals and so on, the worldly view of grasping at "I" and "mine" arises. Therefore, a self that is different in nature from the aggregates cannot even be the object of the innate ego-grasping. They assert that such a self does not even exist conventionally. They further say, "This cannot even be the basis of ego-grasping, and we do not even accept that it exists conventionally." And, "We also do not accept the basis of the worldly ego-grasping consciousness, because that which is not consciousness is also the object of the view of self." In worldly expressions, such as "my body" and "my mind," the self is considered the master of the aggregates, and the aggregates are its servants. Therefore, it is absolutely not permissible to posit the continuum, collection, or individual parts of the aggregates as the basis of the self. In the treatises of the noble ones, it is also explained in the same way. In this chapter, it is explained that things such as views clarify the self of something. Therefore, the collection or any part of the clarifier contradicts the clarified. In the tenth chapter, the relationship between the aggregates and the self is described as being similar to fire and firewood. In the last chapter, it is also said, "Apart from the near-taking, if it is said that there is a self, then the near-taking itself is the self, then your self does not exist." The second point is: If the self and the aggregates are considered to be in a master-servant relationship, would it not lead to considering the two to be of different natures? The answer is: In worldly expressions, there is no saying that the two are different entities. Otherwise, if Lasya's arm is sick or healed, it would not be said that Lasya is sick or healed. Just as "because the near-taking is sick or healed, it is not said that Chama is sick or healed." The reason is: "Because the world merely plants a seed and says, 'I have given birth to this son,' and thinks, 'I have also planted a tree,' therefore, arising from another is also not in the world." This is a translation of the quotation, which reads: "Because the world's arm is sick, it is thought, 'I am sick,' therefore, these two as different entities are also not in the world."
