Regarding the text, adding negative words to these two seems to be a modification by someone who doesn't understand. Here, if the six lines saying "before attachment" appear in the commentaries, it's because they are a translation of a statement saying that attachment also has the same order, so it's not the actual text. Because for all statements that say "it's the same as what has already been said and not said in the previously said and unsaid texts," the noble one himself did not directly add them, because that is to increase the complexity of the words, and if it were directly added, there would be no need to say it that way. Therefore, in the old translation, writing those six lines and the eight lines at the end of them, "Attachment also has attachment, whether it exists or not, the order is the same," within the text is not good, because it contradicts the statement in the old translation itself that the Root Wisdom Treatise has four hundred and forty-nine verses, so it is obvious that it has been mixed by someone else. Taking the two lines "Attachment also has" as the text is because the noble one himself previously examined whether attachment has attachment and then prohibited it, and now saying that it also applies to whether attachment has attachment, this does not seem to be directly said, so it is an adulteration of the text. Therefore, in Buddhapālita, these two sentences are also written, but there is no explanation for them in that commentary. Moreover, the commentary summarizing the meaning of the two lines "If there is attachment," and the two words summarizing the meaning of the two lines "If there is desire" are very similar, but between the latter words, it seems that someone inserted these two words, so it is very clear that it is incorrect. In the Prajñāpradīpa and its commentary, these two sentences also seem to be inserted, but neither the Prajñāpradīpa nor the commentary explains it, and the meaning is also inconsistent, it seems to be inserted in one case. In the Prasannapadā, these two sentences are not there. In Ga-la A-ji-me (transliteration), these two sentences are taken as the root, and it seems that they have also been explained, which shows the author's great self-characteristic, and also quotes Āryadeva's Hundred Treatises as evidence, so it is unreasonable to say that it is Nāgārjuna's work. Second, if the fault mentioned earlier lies in admitting that attachment and clinging have a sequential order, then here the two arise simultaneously.

If it is said that the desire that arises simultaneously with the mind causes the mind to be attached, and it is also attachment, therefore these two are self-existent. Then, to refute this, there are two divisions: first, refuting the co-arising that is independent; second, refuting the co-arising of one and different. First, if desire and attachment are self-existent, then they should not arise simultaneously. Thus, if desire and attachment are self-existent and arise simultaneously, then they will become mutually independent, becoming unrelated, and then there will be no cause for arising inseparably. If these two are self-existent, then they must be either sequential or simultaneous, and if the pervasive and the pervaded are prevented, then sequentiality is not even possible in name, so it is easy to refute. Simultaneous existence exists in name, and if no distinction is added, it cannot be prevented. If self-nature exists simultaneously, it can prevent the relationship of mutual dependence, so simultaneous arising is not self-existent, therefore these two are established as without self-nature. Second, there are two divisions: first, generally refuting the co-arising of one and different; second, specifically refuting the co-arising of different. First, for the desire and attachment that are intended to be co-arising, examine whether they are of one self-nature or different self-nature. For the time being, if these two are of one self-nature, then there is no co-arising, because a single cow is not co-arising with that cow. If the self-nature is different, then how can it become co-arising? It will not become co-arising, because it has not been seen that light and darkness, samsara and nirvana are different entities and co-arising. This is also the equality of self-nature being different, and co-arising or not being the same. Buddhapalita refutes by the reason that the contradictory of different entities is co-arising, the reason being that different self-nature is separate, and co-arising is the principle of not being separate from each other. Therefore, one and different cannot be co-arising. Preventing the impossible and clinging to it as co-arising, if the two, desire and attachment, are a single one, and also cling to it as co-arising, then a single one, such as a cow without a companion, will also become co-arising. If those two self-natures are different entities, and are also co-arising, then cows and so on exist separately without companions.
