Furthermore, through that realization, the world is not tainted by Dharma. As it is also said in the "Mañjuśrī Play Sutra": 'How should one view the realm of a maiden?' The maiden said: 'Mañjuśrī, it is like the three thousand great thousand worlds being burned by the fire of an eon, to the point where even ashes are absent.' Thus it is said. Therefore, the reasoning of this treatise, and especially all the statements in those scriptures that dharmas are devoid of characteristics and the basis of characteristics, should be known as the eye of viewing, and that eye should be completely purified. Third, regarding the statements about the names, signs, and existence or non-existence of things in the realms, one should ascertain the meaning, not merely established by the power of nominal designation. If they exist by the power of their own nature, then names, signs, etc., should not be established. This should be determined by reason. Then, one should ascertain the meaning of the two truths in a very appropriate way, that is, establishing names, signs, and the existence or non-existence of things merely by the power of nominal designation. This is the commentary on the fifth chapter, which is the nature of eight verses called "Analysis of the Realms." The second has three parts: refuting the existence of afflictions that depend on a basis; refuting the existence of characteristics such as arising, ceasing, and abiding; and refuting the existence of cause, action, and agent. The first has three parts: explaining the text of the treatise; combining it with definitive meaning scriptures; and summarizing the meaning and showing the name. First: Here it is said that the aggregates, realms, and sources are inherently existent, because afflictions that depend on them as a basis are apprehended. As the Blessed One said: 'Monks, ignorant ordinary beings who lack learning fall into imputation, that is, after seeing forms with the eye, they become manifestly attached to pleasant places. After becoming manifestly attached, they generate desire. After generating desire, they manifestly perform actions arising from desire with body, speech, and mind.' Because it is thus proclaimed that afflictions such as desire are the cause of pervasive afflictions. Here, if desire and so on were inherently existent, then the aggregates and so on should also be inherently existent, but that is not the case. This has three parts: refuting that desire and attachment are inherently existent; summarizing the refutations; and applying this reasoning to other aspects. The first has two parts: earlier and later.

Refutation of Co-emergence. Refutation of simultaneous arising. The first part has two points: Refuting whether there is attachment before desire; Refuting whether there is desire before attachment. The first point is: If desire exists by its own nature, it will not exceed three possibilities, and the case of co-existence with attachment will be refuted below, so here we examine whether attachment is a pre-existing desire or a later-existing desire. If there is no desire before desire, that is, there is an attachment without desire, then attachment exists previously, and desire arises based on it. If this is the case, then it is reasonable to say that attachment exists previously, and then there will be desire later. Even without desire, it will become attachment, otherwise Arhats will also have desire. In this regard, desire arises from the object of contaminated realms and is a mental factor with the aspect of craving. Attachment is the mind or person attached to the object, which is the basis of desire. If it is unreasonable for attachment to exist previously and then have desire later, then is it that there is no pre-existing attachment and then there is desire later? When attachment exists previously, and desire does not arise later, how can there be desire if there was no attachment previously? This is impossible because there is no basis, just as there is no fruit ripening without a tree. The case of considering simultaneity as a basis will be explained when refuting the simultaneous arising of the two, so here it is shown that attachment is not produced by desire, but has no basis. In this regard, Buddhapalita says that if there is attachment before desire, that is, there is something different from desire, then desire will arise based on it, because if there is attachment, it is reasonable to say "this is the desire of this thing", but if there is no attachment, then whose desire will it become? Because there is no basis, desire is unreasonable. Therefore, the first verse "Without attachment, desire is unreasonable" explains that it is unreasonable for desire to exist without attachment. Then, the answer to "If there is attachment, there will be desire" is: Even if there is attachment, how can there be desire? It is proposed in this way because attachment is not created by previous desire, so desire
