Pages 101 to 200. Pages 101 to 200. If it doesn't prevent combination, or considering the reason for previously preventing birth, the two words "all dharmas" were spoken, and according to that statement, it prevents the self-existent arising and ceasing, thereby immediately preventing the truly existent dependent origination. According to the former statement, both the unborn and the unceased are spoken from the perspective of convention. The two words "if it ceases also" are the same as before. Here, Buddhapalita appears extensively, so it is explained in that way. If one wonders how the nature of the cause, whether ceased or not, exists before the fruit arises, then, as stated in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds, "As the seed ceases, the sprout arises simultaneously," just as Buddhapālita also accepts, the cessation of the cause and the arising of the fruit are also simultaneous. Therefore, just as the activity of ceasing of the ceasing cause occurs before the sprout arises, the activity of arising of the arising fruit also occurs before the cause ceases, and these two are also cause and effect. Since the cessation of the cause and the fruit are simultaneous, it is meaningless to say that it happens immediately. If so, then in the commentary on the Sixty Stanza Reasoning, it says, "The seed is not recognized as the cause of the sprout only in the state of existence, but it is recognized as the cause of the sprout when it becomes non-existent," like others who acknowledge that the previous consciousness becoming non-existent is the immediate cause of the subsequent consciousness. If the previous consciousness is the cause of another consciousness when it exists, then those two would exist simultaneously. Just as it is said that the immediate cessation of the cause is the cause of the arising of the fruit, how can it be explained that "non-existence is also the cause" when arguing that the exhaustion of the cause is the cause of the exhaustion of the fruit? There is no fault, because it is said in the Hundred Verses, "When the cause transforms, it becomes the cause of another," and in its commentary, it is said that just as the seed does not become the cause of the sprout without abandoning its previous state, if the state of the cause is not abandoned at the time of the fruit, then that which is considered the cause will not become the cause of that fruit. Therefore, it is said that the seed and the previous consciousness do not become the cause without becoming non-existent. Because if it is not considered in this way, the cause and effect would become simultaneous, and this can also be understood through this statement.

If it does not become a cause because it has not transformed into another form, then when it transforms, it will not become a cause because the cause has ceased. In the Prajñāpāramitā-saṃgraha it says: If it is thought that the previous moment, which is interrupted by another moment, is ceasing in order to open up space for the arising of the later moment, then it is the immediately preceding condition of that. To this, since non-material things do not abide in a place, there is no possibility of opening up space. And, the Abhidharma says: "After the six have ceased, whatever consciousness is, that is mind." Therefore, it is refuted that the mind that has just ceased is not a condition. Āryadeva also refuted the view that the unceased is a condition. In the Tarka-jvālā it also says: It appears that sprouts and so forth arise from the cessation of the seed. If sprouts could arise even if the seed had not ceased, then seeds in containers and so forth should also be able to produce sprouts. It is also said that ceasing and arising are simultaneous, so it is not a condition. On this point, since it is seen that sprouts cannot arise directly from seeds, and that a previous similar type of consciousness cannot directly act as the immediately preceding condition of a later consciousness, the previous teachers explained it as before. Then, how should we interpret the statements "after the six have ceased" and "the immediately preceding condition is mind and mental factors, except for the last"? It should be understood that this refers to the case of ceasing at the time of the result and arising immediately after that, and not to the case of ceasing immediately before the result. If it were not so, then the statement "the consciousness after the six have ceased is mind" would not be reasonable, because a ceased consciousness cannot become mind. Therefore, the word "ceasing" indicates that, as a condition, there must be a prior and subsequent relationship of cause and effect, and the immediately preceding condition indicates that a real cause is needed. Fourth, if it is said: When this exists, that arises; when this does not exist, that does not arise; this is the self, and it is established by its own nature. Then, because it is dependent arising, all things are without inherent existence, therefore, their existence is not inherently existent. Therefore, for the cause that is referred to as "because this exists, that exists," and the effect that is referred to as "this arises,"
