Again, examining "I" and "suffering," it is a reversed examination of things that do not exist. From this, eye consciousness arises. From the cessation and arising of consciousness, one sees the exhaustion and increase of consciousness. There is no coming or going anywhere, it is emptiness, and yogis see such a principle. As it is said, although it is said that consciousness arises depending on the sense faculty and the object, the sense faculty and the object do not transfer to each other, and there is no coming from anywhere or going to anywhere in terms of arising and ceasing, so one should view it like an illusion. In the Questions of Near Round it is also said: If the eye is complete with everything, it can see, but the eye sees all forms, and if there are no conditions at night, it cannot see. Therefore, being together and being apart are conceptual thoughts. As it is said, one can see depending on the gathering of conditions, and if that gathering is separated, one cannot see, so seeing or not seeing the object is merely established by the power of conceptual thought, but it is shown that it does not exist in its own nature. The eye relies on appearance and sees various forms that are pleasing and unpleasing. Thus, since it sees depending on being complete, therefore the eye never sees. As it is said, since it sees depending on the gathering of conditions, therefore the eye never sees form in its own nature. Both of these negate self-nature with the reason of dependent origination. Whatever pleasant sound is, it never enters inside. It does not go to a specified place, but all sounds arise from conceptual thought. As it is said, the object does not come before the sense faculty, nor does the sense faculty go to the place of the object, but the sense faculty enjoying all objects is merely established by the power of conceptual thought. Similarly, it is also said: The sound of song, dance, and music is also not something to be grasped, like a dream, it is the cause of ignorance and attachment for the unskilled. The unskilled who are always attached to conceptual thoughts will be destroyed, and beings, like children, are enslaved by afflictions. As it is said, this is seeing that one's own mind holds objects to be truly existent, is bound by the clinging to characteristics, and is under the control of afflictions. I, with the wisdom of the wise, can understand that there is not even a particle of existence in the nature of these dharmas, and the child who is unskilled in the reality of reason is like a slave of afflictions.

Thinking about how it could be applied? Therefore, in meditative equipoise, one should practice emptiness like the sky; in the subsequent attainment, one should practice emptiness like an illusion. Thus, the reasoning of this treatise is that the noble ones, using the eye of viewing all the scriptures that show the absence of inherent existence of the object to be grasped, the grasper, and the agent, have composed it. Therefore, one should find this eye and experience the feast of joy that arises from viewing the suchness of these scriptures. Third, when establishing the six objects as the objects to be grasped, the six faculties as the graspers, and the six persons as the agents, one should recognize that this way of clinging is not merely an establishment in terms of names, but rather clinging to these dharmas as existing by their own nature. If it were as it is clung to, then, just as it has been ascertained by reason that there is no place to establish action, agent, and actor, one should be certain of this. After that, all eighteen elements, while not established by their own nature, will effortlessly appear as illusion-like agents, actions, and actors. At that time, one should generate the conviction that all the establishments of eye consciousness as the seer, etc., are extremely fitting for the meaning of illusion-like. Reasoning analysis is to search for whether or not the eye, etc., have an inherent nature established by their own nature, not merely to search for existence or non-existence. Therefore, when it is not found after analysis, the existence of inherent nature is refuted, but the eye, etc., themselves are never refuted. As it is said in the commentary on the Hundred Treatises: If the eye, etc., do not exist, then why are these faculties of the eye, etc., established as the nature of the ripening of karma? Have we stopped the nature of the ripening of karma? If you say, because the stopping of the eye, etc., is established, is it not stopped? Our discriminating analysis is because it is devoted to seeking inherent nature. Here, we are stopping the establishment of things by their own nature, but we are not stopping the eye, etc., as what is done, dependent arising, and the ripening of karma itself. Therefore, because of its existence, whatever is called ripening, the eye, etc., exist. Thus, this much is stopped, but this much is not.
