It is not appropriate to make separate observations on anything such as existence and non-existence. Buddhapālita says that those who only want to understand things like you should not examine the distinctions of form with the nature of a wise person, because how can one think about something that has no place to be found? Furthermore, if one considers the elements as the cause, then does it produce a result similar to itself, or does it produce a different result? It is not reasonable for the form of the result to be the same as the cause, that is, the elements, in its own nature, because the four elements are hard, wet, warm, and moving, while the five faculties such as the eye are the support of eye consciousness and so on, clear and transparent, and the sources such as external forms are to be grasped by eye consciousness and so on, and are not of the nature of the elements. If the sameness of cause and effect is self-existent, then this sameness does not depend on the cause, and if one part is the same, then all parts must be the same. In the "Praise of the Transcendent," it is also said: If the elements are not seen by the eye, then how can what arises from them be seen by the eye? When this is said about form, you can eliminate the clinging to form. This shows that if the elements are not seen by the eye, then the blue, yellow, etc., that arise from them cannot be seen either. If these two are established by their own nature, then seeing or not seeing with the eye should also be the same. The seeds of Salu, etc., are not seen as cause and effect of the same kind of seed, so this also shows that it is unreasonable for the result to be the same as the cause. If one sees that one of the same kind is not a cause and effect, then preventing other similar things from becoming cause and effect is also the point mentioned earlier. It is also unreasonable to say that the result is different from the cause, because if it is different from the cause, but it is permissible as a cause and effect in its own nature, then all different things will become cause and effect. Secondly, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also the same, and should be understood as the same. The same as what? The same as the form aggregate. How is it the same? Just as the self-nature is negated for the form aggregate, so in order, just as the way of negation is, it should also be applied to the remaining four aggregates in all ways. That is, for form, from its own cause, it produces itself and

Just as it is refuted by analysis, so too, feeling and touch, and the perception and ignorance that arise together with consciousness, and the two formations, and the two formations and consciousness, should also be refuted by analyzing them in the same or different ways. Similarly, existence and non-existence, cause and effect, similarity and dissimilarity should also be combined, as it is said in the sutra, "in all aspects." Moreover, all things, namely names, causes and effects, parts and wholes, etc., should also be combined in the same way in all aspects as the three analyses made on form. Third, because the Madhyamikas believe that just as they show one dharma to be empty of inherent existence, they also want to show all other dharmas to be empty, therefore, based on the assertion of emptiness, when refuting others, when refuting "form is without inherent existence," if someone who does not assert emptiness temporarily says in another answer, "feelings etc. exist, and so does form," then all of that is not a correct answer, because the inherent existence of feelings etc. is the same as the inherent existence of form, which needs to be established and proven. Therefore, since such words of the opponent are the same as what needs to be proven, the Madhyamika should say to all those answers, "the proof is the same as what needs to be proven, and is not established," the teacher teaches in this way. Similarly, when explaining with emptiness, if someone like a student speaks of faults and refutes, then all his refutations are not faults, because they are the same as what needs to be proven. The *Śataśāstra* also says: "Whoever sees one thing, sees all things; the emptiness of one is the emptiness of all." It should be known that these two verses belong to the category of all distinctions. Second, in this way, the meaning of the aggregates being determined as empty of inherent existence is also established by valid cognition, and in order to show that all the scriptures that proclaim this should be explained by this distinction, it is only the aspect of combining with the definitive meaning scriptures.
