End. Therefore, other than the previously mentioned prohibitions, the object and subject that grasp phenomena as truly existent or existent by their own nature are the extreme of existence and its grasping, while things like saying that the Buddha has compassion are not the extreme of existence and its grasping. In some instances in the scriptures, it is also said that all that truly exists is the extreme of existence. Therefore, the way to fall into the extremes of existence and non-existence, which is called falling into extremes because grasping it will destroy the grasper, should be understood in that way. If one merely clings to the words 'existence and non-existence' and abandons them, hoping for the saying 'neither existent nor non-existent,' and diligently tries to change it into formless, soundless, etc., it is just a waste of effort. The root is like the foundational body of all Madhyamaka treatises, not one-sided. 'Verse' means arranged in stanzas, not the commonly known chapter. This has four hundred and forty-nine verses and twenty-seven chapters. The second (verse) has three parts: praising the teacher by speaking of dependent arising as being free from extremes; explaining how dependent arising is free from the eight extremes; and thus remembering the kindness of the teacher with reverence. The first (verse) has two parts: the general meaning and the meaning of the limbs. The first (verse) has three parts: how the meaning of this statement contains the subject matter of the treatise, etc.; how the basis of distinction possesses eight characteristics; and refuting the arguments of others. The first (verse) is: The venerable one (Nagarjuna), in order to show without error the subject matter of all the treatises that the teacher will explain, speaks of greatness, therefore, he considers that he is making a salutation with the cause of writing treatises to the teacher who is non-different from the nature of dependent arising, so he said 'by what' etc. Among them, distinguishing by eight characteristics such as the non-cessation of dependent arising is the subject matter of the Root Wisdom. Nirvana, which is the pacification of all elaboration and has the nature of peace, is its necessity. From the commentary of the Clear Words, it is said that the subject matter and necessity of the treatise are shown by the verse of homage, this statement shows that dependent arising has eight characteristics and that Nirvana is the pacification of elaboration.

Even if explained in terms of the seat, this statement does not consider the subject matter and necessity of the Fundamental Treatise to be the seat, because what is said from "by what" to "teaching of peace" means that the teacher taught in this way. The necessity is to eliminate the doubts and wrong views of other beings to be tamed who have not understood the meaning of the definitive and interpretable, and to understand it as it is, and for this reason, the subject matter is taught. Necessity depends on the treatise, and the necessity of necessity depends on necessity, which is the relationship, even if not explicitly stated, it is implied. In the extensive commentary on the "Nirvana of Peace," it is said that when seeing the suchness of dependent arising, there is no entry of mind and mental factors, and this entry is said in the "Commentary on Entering" to be the reversed activity of mind and mental factors. Moreover, in the "Clear Words," it is said: Discrimination is the activity of the mind, but because it is separated from it, suchness is without discrimination. As it is said in the sutra: What is the ultimate truth? Where there is no activity of the mind, what need is there to mention letters? As quoted, it means the reversal of the activity of discrimination, not that there is no wisdom. Saying that the terms knower and known are reversed means that in the moment of equipoise, these two are reversed, but it does not mean that equipoise and ultimate truth are object and subject, because object and subject are not established on the level of reasoning consciousness, but are established on the level of conventional consciousness. If these two points are understood, many similar doubts can be dispelled. Regarding the view that both Hearers and Solitary Realizers realize the two selflessnesses, according to the four necessities etc. mentioned in the "Clear Words," both the Great and Small Vehicles have them, so does this mean that the beings to be tamed here become a common vehicle? In the "Commentary on Entering," it is said that the Hearer's Vehicle only briefly represents the selflessness of phenomena, while it is extensively taught in the Great Vehicle, so in order to prove that the Great Vehicle teachings will not become meaningless, it quotes what is said in the "Praise of the Transcendent": Without realizing the signless, you say there is no liberation. Therefore, this is from the Great Vehicle, you have fully revealed it. After doing so, even if this treatise does not teach the characteristics of the Great Vehicle other than the view, the selflessness of phenomena
