Nga. Because refuting objects with reason is a necessary and definitive refutation. If inherent existence did not exist, then conventional valid cognition could not refute inherent existence, and therefore the non-existence of inherent existence would also not be established, so it is measured by reason. If it does not exist, then the two negations rely on the real, and things would become inherently existent. As it says in the Refutation of Debate: If by the very non-existence of inherent existence, how does one refute the non-existence of inherent existence? If the very non-existence of inherent existence is overturned, then inherent existence will be thoroughly established. This is clearly stated. Reason only cuts off inherent existence, but does not make the non-existence of inherent existence an object, so it is said that it cannot be established by signs either. If one says this, then one must also say that scripture only cuts off inherent existence and self, but does not make the non-existence of inherent existence and selflessness the object of expression, so one should not say that all scriptures and treatises of the Middle Way that teach the ultimate truth teach emptiness, which is the dependent arising free from extremes. In that case, a sprout can negate both true existence and true non-existence and true establishment, but it cannot negate both true existence and non-existence, and the existence and non-existence of ultimate truth are the same. The second has two parts: refuting the argument that the non-existence of inherent existence is established by reason, and refuting the argument that if the non-existence of inherent existence is established by reason, it is established as true. The first is: One might think that the non-existence of a sprout's inherent existence must be established by reason, because other valid cognitions cannot establish it, and because reason establishes the non-existence of inherent existence. If reason finds existence, then it is because it has found one of the meanings of examining and searching for existence and non-existence, and being and non-being, so it is truly existent. In that case, all the reasons for refuting the object to be refuted, true existence, are the same as for refuting emptiness, true existence, so the object to be refuted cannot be refuted either. To this, we think that reason only holds that there is no inherent establishment, but does not hold on to the existence of the non-existence of inherent existence, etc., so it is intended to measure only non-affirming negation. If one holds on to the existence of the non-existence of inherent existence, etc., then other dharmas will be thrown into the object of reason, and non-affirming negation will become the object to be established and measured. Therefore, the actual of reason

Therefore, by the action of the establisher, the existence of no-self cannot be established. However, if it is thought that the existence of no-self can be understood indirectly and that it must be proven by reason, then when it is said, "The sprout is without self," it must also indirectly indicate the existence of no-self, because the mind that follows that word indirectly understands its existence. Therefore, if other dharmas that are not merely the object of negation are indirectly thrown, they are also non-affirming negations, so the characteristic of being a non-affirming negation is lost. Furthermore, the statement "The layman does not eat during the day" is established as the cause of the layman having eaten, and the time of eating is determined to be both day and night, and the negation of eating during the day is direct, but the indirect meaning of existence is eating at night, which is the indirect expression of that word and the indirect object of that mind. However, the direct power similar to this does not appear in the word and mind of "The sprout is without self," so there is no reason for indirect understanding. Even so, without relying on other intervening valid cognitions, but relying on the power of reason, it is possible to generate a mind that directly contradicts the superimposition and mode of apprehension of grasping no-self as non-existent. And it is that very mind that cuts it off, so although superimpositions can be cut off by relying on reason, reason does not cut off that superimposition. This can be illustrated by the example that when a valid cognition that ascertains the three modes of sound being impermanent arises, without relying on other intervening valid cognitions, but relying on its power, it is possible to generate a mind that directly contradicts the superimposition and mode of apprehension of grasping sound as permanent, but the impermanence of sound is not indirectly established by the previous valid cognition, and the superimposition of grasping sound as permanent is not cut off by the previous valid cognition. Therefore, in the Compendium on Valid Cognition, it says, "Sound is produced, and all that is like this, is said to be impermanent, and in meaning, it transforms into a thought of destruction." Although it is said to be in meaning, that is, indirectly, it is similar to not being indirectly understood. If it is said that the meaning of the existence of no-self is the object observed by valid cognition, and that is also proven by reason, so it is proven by the meaning of existence, and the three modes are not the meaning to be proven, so they are not similar, then, for this, the Madhyamikas assert self-awareness in conventional truth, so they believe that the no-self observed by valid cognition is indirectly established by the self-awareness that experiences the observer, but self-awareness
