arising. From the Hundred Verses: "If one sees that places have no self, then the seeds of existence will be cut off." Therefore, one must realize that the places clung to are without self. Thus, one should distinguish the difference between not engaging in the self of persons and engaging in no-self. Among these, one must first determine that the place clung to as the self of the person and as mine is non-existent, and this is explained by the eighteenth chapter. In this way, if the inherent existence of the person is refuted, it will be thought that there are those who come from another world to this world, and those who go from this world to another world, as well as doers of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, which is not reasonable. To refute this thought, there are the two investigations of going and coming and the agent. Afterwards, to show that the taker and the taken are also without inherent existence, like actions and agents, to refute the thought that if there is no inherent existence, then it cannot be a taker, there is the investigation of prior existence. Afterwards, to establish the taker, among the example and sign for establishment, the refutation of the example is the tenth chapter. Because there is samsara, there is a samsaric being, and because there is suffering, there is a self that corresponds to suffering. To refute this sign, there are the eleventh and twelfth chapters. Afterwards, to refute the place of ignorance that clings to the self of phenomena, the first is the refutation of the arising of internal and external phenomena. Because the sutras say that there are sense bases, aggregates, and elements, it is thought that they have inherent existence. To refute this thought, there are the three investigations of the sense bases, etc. Afterwards, for the attachment, etc., which are the basis of these three, and the characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing, which are represented by conditioned phenomena, and their cause, actions and agents exist. Therefore, to refute the thought that these three have inherent existence, there are the three investigations of desire and attachment, etc. The eighth chapter is applicable to refuting the inherent existence of both persons and phenomena. By the investigation of formations, without distinguishing between persons and phenomena, it is shown that things themselves are empty of inherent existence. Afterwards, for the things that distinguish and do not distinguish between persons and phenomena, the inherent existence is refuted. To show the encounters of phenomena as the basis for establishing inherent existence, and the causes and conditions of arising, and the taker, and the saying that one turns into one, to refute these sayings, there are the three investigations of encounter and inherent existence and bondage and liberation, and for the basis of establishing that samsara has inherent existence, the results of actions...

To refute the basis of interdependence, there is the examination of cause and effect. Furthermore, to refute the argument that things have inherent existence, namely, being the cause for establishing the three times, there is the examination of time. To argue that time has inherent existence, and to refute being the co-emergent condition of the result and the cause of arising and ceasing, there are the two examinations of aggregation and arising and ceasing. In the examination of arising and ceasing, to show the emptiness of permanence by its own nature, and to refute that the result of permanence, the Tathagata, and the cause, afflictions, are unreasonable, there are the two examinations of the Tathagata and reversal. Thus, if all phenomena are empty of inherent existence, then the four truths and so on are unreasonable, as an answer to the truth, when empty of inherent existence, all those are reasonable, and when not empty, they are unreasonable, thus the examination of truth is taught, and this should be added to the end of each chapter refuting inherent existence. Regarding emptiness of inherent existence, especially arguing that nirvana is unreasonable, the examination of nirvana is taught as an answer. After that, to show that dependent arising and the Middle Way have the same meaning, it is considered that dependent arising is taught, namely, seeing dependent arising or seeing dependent arising is seeing the reality of the four truths, and the examination of dependent arising is taught. What was said in the previous chapters, if one is deluded about suchness, one follows the cycle of existence, and if one is not deluded, one is liberated from the cycle, this meaning is also contained here, so both are acceptable. If one sees the suchness of dependent arising, then in order to accomplish the meaning of not clinging to the bad views such as the extreme of the past, the examination of views is taught. Thus, one should carefully observe how the co-emergent self-grasping of one's own continuum grasps, understand that the treatises are the means to refute it, and through all listening, speaking, observing, thinking, meditating, and so on, be skilled in refuting self-grasping, and should not be pleased with scholars who are merely debaters. The second has three: showing that dependent arising is empty of inherent existence. The way of entering and leaving the cycle of existence from whether or not one realizes it. The way that bad views are reversed when one realizes dependent arising. The first has two: the meaning of the main text and, refuting the arguments against it. The first has two: briefly showing the two selflessnesses.
