Because of clinging to existence, worldly views arise. The "I" that is distinct in essence from the aggregates cannot even serve as the object of innate self-grasping. This is because they believe that such an "I" does not even exist conventionally. Therefore, this cannot be the basis for self-grasping, nor is it considered to exist conventionally. Thus it is said. And, "The basis for the worldly self-grasping mind is also not accepted, because being non-cognitive is also a reason for self-view." Thus it is said. In worldly language, there are phrases like "my form" and "my mind," where the "I" is grasped as the master of the aggregates, and the aggregates are grasped as its servants. Therefore, it is absolutely not permissible to designate the continuum, collection, or parts of the aggregates as the referent of "I." This is also explained in the same way in the scriptures of the noble ones. In this chapter, it is explained that the "whatness" of the self is clarified by "whatnesses" such as views. Therefore, the collection and parts of the clarifier contradict being the clarified. In the tenth chapter, the way in which the aggregates and the self are the same and different is described as being like fire and firewood. In the final chapter, it is also said: "Apart from what is taken up, when it is done that there is no self, then what is taken up is the self; your self is non-existent." Thus it is said. Secondly, if the self and the aggregates are grasped as being like master and servant, wouldn't that mean that the two are grasped as being distinct in essence? The grasping of these two as different substances does not exist in worldly language. Otherwise, if Lhas Byin's hand is sick or healed, it would not be considered that Lhas Byin is sick or healed. It is like, "Because of the sickness and healing that is hidden nearby, it is not said that Jamyang is sick and healed. The reason is that, because the world merely plants a seed, it is said that I produced this child, and it is also thought that a tree has been planted, therefore, arising from another does not exist in the world." This is a translated quotation. Because the hand of the world is sick, it is thought that I am sick, therefore, these two different substances do not exist in the world either. Therefore, the self or the person is merely a nominal designation, and when searching for the basis to which the term "I" applies, one cannot find anything that is distinct in essence from the aggregates or the same in essence, etc. Therefore, it is merely designated as "I" based on the aggregates. When a hand is sick or healed, that person is sick and
