It exists. It is because of the prohibition. The way to combine it is: whether the receiver is or is not, each once, both are; whether the object to be received is or is not, each once, both are not received, that is, it also applies to inconsistent aspects. Because the self-existence of action and agent is prohibited, it is certain that the two that are closely taken are established in mutual dependence, not only that, but also by the agent and actions, that is, by the reason of analyzing the two, the remainder of the two, the agent and the closely taken, that is, those things that are different from them, should also be known by the wise, the self-existence is prohibited, and it should be known that they are established in mutual dependence. Those also include what is produced and what produces, the goer and the going, what is to be seen and what sees, the definition and what is defined, what arises and what causes to arise, and so on. Similarly, all of the limbs and what has limbs, qualities and what has qualities, valid cognition and what is to be measured, and so on. The way to combine it is: whether the producer and the goer are or are not, each once, both are; whether what is produced and the going are or are not, each once, both do not produce and do not go there. It should also be applied to inconsistent aspects, and the remainder is also the same. Whether the limbs and qualities are or are not, each once, both also do not belong to what has limbs and what has qualities, whether they are or are not, each once, both do not belong, combine in this way, and it also applies to inconsistent aspects. Therefore, in the first chapter, what is produced and what produces, in the second, coming and going, in the third, what is to be seen and what sees, and in the fifth, after examining the name and what is signified, those that are prohibited only prohibit the self-existence of what is produced and what produces, etc., therefore it is not a prohibition of existence. When those are prohibited, the existence of dependent arising, which is established in mutual dependence, is established, and valid cognition and what is to be measured are also the same as that. Therefore, it is not that valid cognition and what is to be measured, which are established in mutual dependence, are not accepted, because there is no difference between what is to be proven and what proves it. Those such as cause and effect are not only mutually dependent in name, but the two meanings are also mutually dependent, which is the meaning of the text. Because, for the reason of mutual dependence, it is the occasion to prohibit self-existence for the meaning of what can be done and what is done and all names. Therefore, fire is also established depending on being what is produced by smoke, because its own nature is not established independently, therefore there is no fire in other schools.

It is not like explanations that do not depend on others, and so on. All chapters must be understood in this way, because they must rely on each other to be established. Therefore, they do not have independence by virtue of their own essence, so the very reason of dependent arising establishes the absence of inherent existence. In this way, relying solely on the certainty of cause and effect destroys all fixations that cling to characteristics. Therefore, all the wrong paths of right view, the extremes of permanence and annihilation, and exaggeration and denigration, are cut off from there. If the meaning of emptiness of such inherent existence is not understood through dependent arising, either one is troubled by the five remaining fixations of true clinging, or because one does not accept the dependent arising of this arising and this ceasing, one cannot correctly understand the true meaning of dependent arising, and one will inevitably fall into one of the extremes of permanence and annihilation. If it is said that the meaning of the taker and the taken will be understood merely by "if one knows the remaining things," then it seems unnecessary to write "similarly, one should know the proximate taking." Although this is true, it is listed separately in order to make people aware that these two are the most important in analysis, and the examination of these two will often appear in later chapters as well. Secondly, in this way, all actions and agents, such as virtuous and non-virtuous actions and their agents, are shown by reason to be empty of inherent existence, which is in accordance with the scriptures of definitive meaning. And, in order to show that this chapter will explain all statements about the non-apprehension of actions and agents, only the aspect of combining with the scriptures of definitive meaning is mentioned. As it is said in the "Inquiry of Upali": "I have shown the terror of the hell of the mind, and even though I have made countless beings weary, those beings who die and go to the terrible lower realms have never existed. Those who wield swords, arrows, and release weapons do not exist, because in those lower realms, the body being struck is seen by the power of conceptual thought, and there are no weapons there. Various pleasing flowers bloom, and golden mansions shine with light, delighting the mind, but here, there is no agent for them either, because they are established by the power of conceptual thought. The world is discriminated by the power of conceptual thought, and because of clinging to concepts,
