If, concerning what is to be done, one does not criticize it as an action that no one has done, but instead criticizes that person for becoming a doer who does nothing. Secondly, becoming an action is established because of the reason that the doer has done it, so only by possessing action does one obtain the name of action. Thus, for that which has become an action by possessing action, there is now no other action by which someone would do that action. When there is no other action, if the doer does not do the action, then that person, merely not doing the action, would also become the doer? There is no doer of not doing action, just as the non-doer of uninterrupted action is not seen as its doer. Thus, through the sign of reversing the consequence, because being an action is being a doer, the doer is not established by its own nature. The way to apply this refutation should also be understood as previously explained. If what is considered an action is not done by oneself, then the action will not be established, so here that doer is pushed to a doer who does nothing, rather than pushed to an action that no one has done. The second part has two points: refuting by leading to causelessness, and stating the faults of holding that view. First point: If one thinks that because one has not become a doer, one does not do what has not become an action, then that action, that is, what that person is to do, will become without cause, because it is separated from action. Moreover, the cause for that person himself to be established as the doer of the action will also be absent, because it is separated from action. Second point: If there is no cause for what is to be done and the doer, then there will be no result, the clay pot, because it has no cause. If there is no clay pot, then its doer or the co-operative conditions, such as the wheel, etc., will also not be reasonable. If both cause and result are absent, then what action does the result, the pot, have, and what action can the potter independently become the doer, and the mud-kneader also accomplish the action by the nature of what is to be accomplished, it is not reasonable to do in a superior way. If the three, such as action, are not reasonable, then the ten virtues of Dharma and the ten non-virtues of non-Dharma will not exist, because one is independent with regard to the actions of abandoning and relying on.

The maker says: The actions of abandoning and relying on, done through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, are for the sake of generating Dharma and non-Dharma. If there were no virtuous Dharma and non-virtuous Dharma, then the desirable and undesirable fruits arising from them would also not exist. If there were no such two fruits, then it would be unreasonable to cultivate the eightfold path for the sake of liberation, and to cultivate meditation and formless meditation for the sake of being born in the heavenly realms, that is, the realms of form and formlessness. Furthermore, engaging in all worldly activities such as farming would also become meaningless. If it is said that it is meaningless, it is not acceptable. It should be refuted by saying: By refuting in order, one who has not become a maker does not do what is to be done. This is the source of all faults and should not be admitted. Second, the proponents of nominalism assert that, in terms of substance, there is a maker and an act, but before the maker and the act, they are not these two. Just as both one who has become a maker and one who has not become a maker do not perform the nature of both what has become an act and what has not become an act, because becoming a maker and an act, and not becoming both, are contradictory to each other at the same time, so such a situation does not exist at all, because it does not exist. If it is thought that there is no fault because it is established in terms of name, even so, it is refuted by the previous two reasons, so it is unreasonable. The second is divided into two: refuting each maker doing different acts; refuting doing two different acts. First, if one who has become a maker has action, then he does not do what has not become an act, which has no action, because he is a maker. Here, too, as previously stated, becoming a maker has no other action, and there is an act and a non-act that no one has done. Here, too, as previously stated, not becoming an act will lead to faults such as becoming causeless. One who has not become a maker also does not do what has become an act, and its fault should be known by the former. Here, the third sentence does not refute doing different aspects, considering that there is no difference from the situation in the following text. Second, one who has become a maker
