Because of having action, one becomes an agent, and for that case, there is now no other action that would make that action happen. When there is no other action, when the agent does not act, it also becomes an action that does not depend on the agent. An action without an agent is impossible, just like a widow's son making a pot. After refuting in this way, with the reason that an action without an agent is impossible, it is proven that one becomes an agent, but the action that arises from this is not established by its own nature, thereby establishing the first commitment. If the act of making a clay pot itself also makes the potter the agent of the pot, hasn't the act of making the clay pot also been done? Based on the reason of making a clay pot, the potter is first set as the agent of the pot, and after that, another action other than that action must be done, but because there is no other action, the act of making the clay pot becomes an action not done by the agent, how is this refutation reasonable? In response to this, because one is an agent, one performs an action, and doing one thing itself is also simultaneously set as the agent and having done that action, we also think so in name. For example, the merit of prostrating by Devadatta is being created, Devadatta is the agent of that action, and the action of prostrating is said to be the creation of merit, so it is an action. Because it is said to be creating, it is doing something that becomes an action. Even so, if it is said that the agent and the action are established by their own nature, then doing one thing cannot simultaneously be set as both the agent and having done the action, so this refutation is valid. Like this, the action of the craftsman depends on both the potter and the clay, and if these two bases are each established by their own nature, then the action must also be divided and exist separately, therefore it is contradictory to commonly rely on one action, just as was said before. Therefore, if a second action other than the action of setting as an agent is not done, then because one is an agent, the action will not be established, and this also establishes the pervasion of the sign of the previous refutation. If the person who wants to be an agent does not do the action that he should do, then he will not be established as an agent, so here he
