In response to the argument that exhausted malt and trees cannot be causes, it is stated, "Those existing things that are not exhausted are also unsuitable as causes," thus beginning in the same way. The meaning of saying "Seeds are not considered causes of sprouts only in the state of existence" etc., has already been explained. Therefore, these causes and effects such as sprouts must be established as seen by worldly people. In the world, it is said, "Because there is no water, my fruit is bad; because there is no food, my child died," thus the latter is destroyed because of the absence of the former. Similarly, just as food and water that are not exhausted are the cause of a child's survival and good fruit, those that are exhausted are also established as the cause of those that are exhausted. Those that are not exhausted are not different from non-existence, therefore one should also understand the aspect of the fruit. This below is the aggregation of things and non-things. And in the Sixty Stanza Reasoning, it is also said: The exhaustion of the cause is itself pacification, it is considered exhaustion. This is what is meant. In the Hundred Treatises, it is also said: The fruit destroys the cause, therefore there is no birth. Thus, it is said that the cessation of the cause is caused by the arising of the fruit, which is the view of the noble father and son. The past of the destruction of the sprout is considered real, and according to this point, the future of the sprout is also the same. Therefore, this is also the meaning of "no birth." This way of establishing the past and future is not suitable for those who establish self-nature, but it is very suitable for the school that does not even acknowledge the name of self-nature, as stated in the commentary on the Hundred Treatises. This school is very important but not well-known, so it is explained in detail. Second, if it is said that although the general characteristics of conditioned phenomena, arising, abiding, and ceasing, are negated, conditioned phenomena with specific characteristics such as hardness and concealment exist by their own nature, then, like this, because arising, abiding, and ceasing are not established by their own nature, conditioned phenomena do not exist by their own nature. Therefore, their differences are not established by their own nature. Second, if it is said that conditioned phenomena exist by their own nature because their opposite, unconditioned phenomena, exists, then, conditioned phenomena, as stated before, are not completely established by their own entity, therefore unconditioned phenomena are the cessation of analytical examination and the cessation of non-analytical examination.

So, how do the sky and the four suchnesses become established and not established by their own nature? It has been clearly shown. Here, since the scriptures extensively refute the truth of conditioned phenomena, how can unconditioned phenomena be established as true? The intention of what is said is: Even if one considers unconditioned phenomena to be true, one must also consider them to be the object of measurement by valid cognition, and if so, then for the time being, measurement will not be measured. And so on. Even if one considers it to be an object to be obtained, for the time being, obtaining will not be obtained. And so on. Even if one considers it to exist on such a basis, for the time being, existence will not exist. And so on. Similarly, even if one considers it to be the cause of obtaining, it should be refuted as explained in the examination of aggregates. Moreover, for these, names and signs must be considered, and if so, they should be refuted as explained in the examination of elements. By symbolizing it, the reasoning of arising from others, which was previously explained, should also be changed and refuted. If this reasoning cannot refute the belief that unconditioned phenomena are true as objects to be obtained, etc., then it cannot refute the truth of conditioned phenomena either, and it is the same in all respects. Therefore, even if one understands well the reasoning of each chapter of the noble ones, all such wrong ideas will be reversed, so even if conditioned phenomena are not true, unconditioned phenomena can be established as true, which is a statement of not understanding reasoning. The third is: If arising, abiding, and ceasing are not established by their own nature, then conditioned phenomena also appear as arising, etc., then how should what is said be understood? Just like a dream, just like an illusion, just like a city of gandharvas, similarly, saying arising, similarly saying abiding, similarly saying ceasing, but not saying arising, etc., established by one's own nature. Just as illusions, etc., do not have the nature as they appear, but these all become the way of verbal expression, similarly, arising, etc., are not existent by nature, but are shown only through the fame of the world. In short, even if arising, ceasing, etc., are not established by their own nature, but because these are established on the appearing illusion, etc., it is not contradictory to the scriptures that say these. If there is no place to establish arising, ceasing, etc., then it is contradictory to the scriptures. Arising, etc., are the objects of direct perception, and these have agents, and many sentient beings jointly...
