Examining and refuting. First, if impermanence is established by its own nature, then it does not exceed three situations. That is, a thing that has ceased will not become ceased, because the past and the present are contradictory. For the aspect of a destroyed thing appearing as a thing, such as a pot, the reason why the object to be refuted, the thing that has ceased, does not cease is that the act of the pot ceasing is present, and the pot being destroyed is past, and the two are contradictory. Not ceased, that is, the future in which the act of ceasing has not arisen, will also not become ceased, because it is separated from ceasing. The state of ceasing is also the same, that is, it will not cease by its own nature, because apart from the previous two, the state of ceasing does not exist by its own nature. If the state of ceasing exists by its own nature, then the act of ceasing will become two, and in that case, the ceaser will also become two. For cessation, here there are two acts: the act of "this ceases" and the act of "this is ceasing," and this should also be understood for existence. Furthermore, since the arising by its own nature has been previously prevented, then how can something that has not arisen by its own nature cease by its own nature? It will not cease. Second, furthermore, if cessation exists by its own nature, then it does not exceed two situations, that is, when a thing temporarily exists, it is not reasonable for cessation to exist by its own nature, because the act of cessation and the act of existence existing on the same basis are contradictory. When a thing does not exist in its own time, the act of cessation is also not reasonable, because that is also non-existent. Third, there are two: the actual meaning and, abandoning disputes. First, furthermore, if cessation exists by its own nature, then it does not exceed cessation in two states. That is, in the state of milk, the state of milk will not become the cessation of itself, because acting on one's own essence is contradictory. In the state of yogurt other than the state of milk, the state of milk is also not the cessation other than the state of yogurt, because the object to be destroyed and the destroyer will not exist at the same time. Second, if it is not that the state itself destroys itself, nor that another state destroys another, but the state of milk has cessation, so arising should also

If someone asks: At what time, according to the previously stated reason, is the self-nature birth of all dharmas unreasonable? At that time, the self-nature cessation of all dharmas is also unreasonable, hasn't it been said very clearly? Buddhapālita said: Cessation exists because it is taken from the previous; when things are in the process of ceasing, birth is unreasonable. If someone says this, then, in order to answer the refutation of birth arising from the cause of ceasing, this treatise is explained. Fourth, furthermore, if cessation exists by its own nature, then things will not go beyond the two situations of existence and non-existence, and for the time being, for existing things, self-nature cessation is unreasonable, because if the existence of things like a vase and the non-existence of its destruction are the same, then it is unreasonable. Here, destruction is a dharma that depends on things, so if cessation exists by its own nature, then when the vase is destroyed, it must also depend on the vase. Or, just like the mutually contradictory light and darkness, it is unreasonable for things to both exist and not exist. For things that have become non-existent, cessation is also unreasonable, because it is not existent, for example, just as it is impossible to cut off two heads for something that does not have two heads. Because it is generally believed that there are no two heads, even if it is not said that it does not actually exist, the statement will become complete, so "non-existent" is not written. Fifth, furthermore, if cessation causes things to cease, then the cessation that can cause cessation will not go beyond the two situations of itself and others, and it is non-existent for cessation to cause things to cease by its own nature. Just as birth does not produce itself, the same is true for this, because: 'This cessation is not already ceased, how can it cease itself? If it is said that cessation can cease, what will be ceased when it is already ceased?' This is how it is translated. Cessation is also not caused by other things outside of itself to cease, just as birth is not born from other births outside of itself, because: 'If there is another cessation that ceases, then that cessation will be endless, if it is said that there is no cessation that ceases, then everything should cease.' This is how it is translated. If we observe and analyze in this way, then birth, abiding, and cessation exist by their own nature.
