If it is like seeing a cow and a horse appearing together, then the difference seen in that way is also not, so these two are not together in essence. If this is also established as being together in essence, it is the same as things that appear together without any connection. The second case is: if it is not established as being different, it is unreasonable to be together, if you think that greed and desire are established as being different in essence, in order to establish to the other party that these two exist in essence, why are you completely attached to them only being together? It is unreasonable to be attached in that way. The reason is that the necessity of being attached to being together is, in order to establish "this greed causes this desirous person to have greed for this object", if it is different in essence, then such mutual dependence is not possible. Buddhapālita has already examined the objects that are together, but it is meaningless to examine there only because of the fault of establishing difference, it is like watering already wet words. The two meanings of clear words are the same, if self-nature difference is established, then self-existence is established by this alone, so it should not be said that in order to prove it, it is meaningless to pass through being together in the middle. The third case is: if it is only difference, then the necessity of mutual dependence of "this has greed for this" cannot be established, in order to prove it well, if you think that these two are together, then, in the mutually dependent together, it cannot be self-nature difference, because the fault of being one is established, in order to prove it well, you also think it is difference, it is like wearing ragged clothes, being blown uncomfortably by the strong wind, curling up the body, and when it is too curled up and unbearable, stretching the body again. What Buddhapālita said is very clear. Here, is it that each individual separate entity has different things, or is it that there is difference when they appear together? If it is the first case, that is unreasonable, because neither greed nor desire can say "this is greed", "this is greed produced by this", because it is impossible to have difference. If it is the second case, then it has also been said that there is no essential difference there, so there is no essentially different thing.

If it is not established, then simultaneous things will not be established, because it only exists in different things. Therefore, whether it occurs alone or both occur simultaneously, or you may freely examine other different things, whatever essentially different things exist, please tell what makes desire and attachment considered simultaneous things, this is what Buddhapalita said. Second, as observed by the reasons stated above, desire and attachment, whether simultaneous, simultaneous, or prior and posterior, cannot be established, therefore, whether it is the person who desires, the mind, or the object of desire, and the desire that produces desire, all are established as emptiness. Third, just as the examination of desire has been done, all the dharmas such as hatred and aversion, and ignorance and delusion, should also be known that simultaneous and non-simultaneous, prior and posterior, cannot be established by reason. That is, if hatred is prior, there is aversion without hatred, relying on it there is hatred, having aversion there will be hatred. Etc., refuting the translation of the scriptures. Second, in this way, by examining the reasons for desire, etc., it shows that all dharmas are without self-nature, which is also established by the definitive meaning of the scriptures. In order to show that this treatise will explain all the scriptures that say what is desire, what produces desire, etc. are without self-nature, therefore only the part combined with the definitive meaning of the scriptures is mentioned. As it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: Young man, Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who is skilled in the wisdom of the nature of the insubstantiality of all dharmas, he does not desire, hate, or be ignorant of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and all dharmas. Why is that? Because he does not truly see that dharma, nor does he cling to that dharma, whether it is who desires, what is desired, through what is desired, whether it is who hates, what is hated, through what is hated, whether it is who is ignorant, what is ignorant, through what the dharma that becomes ignorant, he does not truly see, nor does he cling to.
