There is no change, otherwise even an Arhat would have desire. Desire is a mental factor with the aspect of craving, arising from the object of contaminated realms. Attachment is the mind or person attached to an object, the basis of desire. If attachment existed previously, it is unreasonable for desire to exist later, so does desire arise later without attachment existing previously? When attachment exists previously, and desire does not arise later, how can desire arise when there was no attachment previously? This will not change, because there is no basis, just as there is no ripening without fruit. The assumption of simultaneous dependence, the occurrence of those two simultaneously, is explained from the occasion of prevention, which shows that attachment arises from desire and has no basis. On this, Buddhapālita says, if there is attachment before desire, that is, no desire, something different from it, then relying on it there will be desire, the reason is that if there is attachment, it is reasonable to say this is the desire of this, but if there is no attachment, whose desire would it be? Because there is no basis, desire is unreasonable. If there is no attachment, desire is unreasonable, the first verse explains that it is unreasonable to have desire without attachment previously. Then, in response to the statement that if there is attachment, there is desire: Even if there is attachment, how can there be desire? It is said that because previous attachment is not attached by desire, it will not become desire, otherwise nothing will become non-desire. Therefore, it is explained that even if there is attachment, desire is unreasonable, and the two lines of the word attachment are also quoted in the Lamp of Wisdom. Although the prevention of desire with or without attachment previously is similar, the way the upper and lower treatises prevent it is different, the difference in the first of the two lines of the word attachment is whether or not to emit a negative word. Second, if the desire of existence or non-existence previously is prevented, but the accompanying (chabs pa) is self-existent, because it is not prevented. If attachment is self-existent, then desire previously exists

Furthermore, whether desire exists before or not, the attachment to desire, examining whether it exists before or not and blocking it, is similar to the order of this, therefore attachment is inherently non-existent. The similar reasoning is, if it is thought that desire exists before, and attachment exists later, then, if before attachment, there is desire without attachment, relying on it there is attachment, if desire exists, then attachment will exist. Thus establishing and refuting, from attachment arises desire, the desire without reliance before will exist. If it is thought that desire does not exist before, but attachment exists, then later the co-emergent is prevented, attachment is before and desire is after, thinking like this, even if desire does not exist, how can attachment exist? Thus establishing, attachment is before, then even an Arhat will have attachment. Regarding this, Buddhapālita also abandoned the fourth line as the reason, as shown by the third line of the first verse, before desire, this desire is attached to this, this is reasonable, if there is no desire, then what is attached to it? Even if desire does not cause attachment, it is attached, then there is nothing that is not attached, therefore without desire, attachment is unreasonable, thus explaining. The response to if desire exists then attachment exists is:
