Since you must exist as an independent entity, there should be no relationship of being dominated by others or dependent on others. Therefore, if establishment by essence depends on the establisher, then it is impossible to not depend at any time, thus it will become infinite. Other things besides those with characteristics and those without characteristics will also not have characteristics, because that is impossible, because returning from having no characteristics is having characteristics, and returning from having is having no characteristics, therefore having characteristics and having no characteristics are directly contradictory. In this regard, the Lokayata (Carvaka) argues that the person (pudgala) is without characteristics in relation to the substance of life, and has characteristics in relation to the substance of the body, therefore, nominally speaking, it has characteristics and does not have characteristics, but this will not go beyond the previous refutation of each. Second, if even if it is denied that characteristics exist inherently in the characterized object, but since negating the collection does not negate the individual parts, therefore the characterized object exists inherently, if you think so, then when the establishment of characteristics does not exist inherently, then the characterized object cannot reasonably exist inherently, because the characterized object must be established by the reason of the establishment of characteristics. Here, if you show that the element of space exists inherently by the sign of having unobstructed characteristics, then that is also unreasonable because the characteristics do not apply, and if so, how can your characterized object, which exists inherently, be established? Second, if you block the application of the characteristic, but do not block the characteristic, so the characteristic exists inherently, and if so, the characterized object also exists, if you think so, then when it is shown that the characterized object is unreasonable because the characteristic does not apply, the characterized object cannot reasonably exist inherently, and not only that, the characteristic is also not inherently existent, because it has no basis. Because there is no characteristic of having no basis, it is unreasonable to say that the characteristic exists inherently even if the characterized object is blocked. Third, because in all ways of examination, the characteristic cannot be established, therefore the basis of the characteristic does not exist inherently. Therefore, the characteristic without a basis is also not existent, this is a summary of the previous negations. The second part has two aspects: the actual meaning and

Refuting Arguments. Firstly: If it is said that characteristics and bases are inherently non-existent, but even so, the nature of reality, space, exists, and if so, it becomes either a base or a characteristic, so both of them are inherently existent. To that, other schools, such as the Vaisheshika, assert that space is established as a substance, while in our own school, the Vaibhashikas consider space to be a thing. Moreover, Buddhists agree that space is conceived as the obstruction, that is, the prevention of tangible contact. However, if it were merely a non-affirming negation of tangible contact, it would not be able to convey meaning to others. Therefore, the Vaibhashikas consider space to be a thing, thinking that space enables the distinction of forms and thus has a function. Even if space enables distinction, it is so, but the distinction of other forms is due to the fact that one form, like a pot, has moved its position to another place, not because space has enabled it. Also, the obstruction of space is because another form cannot enter the space where one form exists, so it itself obstructs the space. If another form enters there, the former must go elsewhere, so enabling space requires accepting coming and going. Without refuting that space is a thing by those reasons and the reasons that show harm to permanence and things sharing a common basis, it has already been shown that space is not a base, and the characteristic of being without obstruction is inherently non-existent. Since there is no thing other than a base and a characteristic, the refutation that space is inherently non-existent is intended to apply the reasons stated for space to the remaining elements as well. Other schools in our own tradition that assert things exist consider the mere non-affirming negation of preventing tangible contact to be a non-entity. If they think that such a non-entity exists inherently, space is merely posited as the division of forms that have obstruction. If form exists inherently, then at that time, even the mere obstruction of forms with obstruction, like the space in between, would become inherently existent. However, if the thing of form is not inherently existent by the reasons stated earlier, then at that time, what thing does not exist, would space become existent? It would not become existent. If the reality of a rabbit's horn does not exist, therefore the non-existence of a rabbit's horn
