It will appear like a person enjoying their own land. This is the explanation of the third chapter, which is in the form of verses, called "Examination of the Senses." Second, there are three parts to refuting the self of phenomena in the aggregates (Skt. skandha): explaining the text of the treatise, combining the text with the meaning of the quotations, and summarizing the meaning and indicating the title. The first part is: Here it is said that even if the senses are blocked, they exist because the five aggregates are not blocked. If it exists, then the senses are also included in it, so it exists by its own nature. There are three parts to refuting this: refuting the self-existence of the form aggregate, applying that reasoning to others, and how to answer in times of debate and discussion. The first part has two parts: refuting cause and effect in things that exist in other ways, and refuting cause and effect in existence and non-existence, and similarity and dissimilarity. The first part is: Here in the Abhidharma it says, "Whatever is form, whatever it may be, all of them are the four great elements, and the four great elements are made as the cause." That is, the four, such as the earth element, are the four elements that are the form of the cause, and the five senses such as the eye, and the five from the birthplace of form to the tangible of the fruit form, etc., are said to be the fruit form. The commitment to prevent the holding of the self-characteristics of cause and effect is: the cause of the form of the eye, etc., does not belong to the four elements, that is, the fruit form that is different from them in its own nature will not be observed. Moreover, the cause of the fruit form that is called the fruit form, that is, the cause of the fruit form that is different from them in its own nature, will not appear. To establish these two commitments: if the cause of the form of the eye, etc., does not belong, and the fruit form exists in its own nature, then that form will become causeless, because relying on it is contradictory. The meaning is that anything that is causeless does not exist anywhere, so a causeless form cannot exist. If the fruit form does not belong, and the cause of the form exists in its own nature, then it will become a cause without a result. If the cause that establishes the cause as the cause is the production of the result, and if it is established as different in nature, then it will not depend on the result, and if so, the production of the result will not exist. A cause without a result is not a cause, because the cause

Because there is no cause for the arising of appearances, it is like a flower in the sky. Both of them, by refuting, declared the accomplishment of the two vows. The prevention of cause and effect being of the same nature is because it is the occasion for preventing one's own school, so it was not said. If the nature is different, dependence is not reasonable, because it would lead to the fault of being without a cause, so it is not the same as the reasoning that previously prevented other-birth. Secondly, moreover, if one thinks of the elements as the cause of form, it does not go beyond two possibilities; if it has form, then it is not reasonable for it to be the cause of form, because what is the cause going to do again for what already exists? Because there is no need. If it does not have form, then it is not reasonable for it to be the cause of form, because if it does not exist, what will it become the cause of? These two are mutually exclusive. This has already been said in the examination of conditions, but here too it is said because the time is right. If you say that the cause of form is not reasonable, but the form of the result exists, and if it exists, then the cause will also exist, then, it has already been said that the cause of form does not exist by its own nature, and if that is the case, then the form of the result without a cause existing is not reasonable. By examining "reasonable or not reasonable" and proclaiming the two refutations that include certainty, it shows that the aspect of things being without a cause, not relying on causes, is extremely inferior. Because without relying on the cause of form, form cannot be perceived, and for both the existence and non-existence of form, the cause is not reasonable, and there is no form without a cause, therefore, the yogi, by seeing this, should not separately contemplate the various concepts of form, such as obstructed and unobstructed, and taught and untaught, etc., that is, it is not appropriate. Buddhapalita says that someone like you who wants to understand this, a person of wise nature should not examine the various concepts of form, because how can one think about something that has no dwelling place? Furthermore, if one thinks of the elements as the cause, then is it producing a result that is the same as itself, or is it producing a different result? It is not reasonable for the form of the result to be the same as the cause element, existing from its own essence, because the four elements are solid, liquid, warm, and moving, while the five faculties such as the eye are the support of eye consciousness etc., clear form, and the sources of external forms etc.
