Moreover, this commentary does not explain this, and it contradicts the statement by Avalokiteśvara Vratin (spyan ras gzigs brtul zhugs) that the root verses have four hundred and forty-nine verses, so it is clear that it was translated from an incorrect version. If the four, such as consciousness, exist by their own nature, then those two should also exist by their own nature, but this is not the case. Because the seer does not exist by its own nature, the seen and the seer do not exist by their own nature, therefore the four, such as consciousness, and the four included by "etc.", namely contact, feeling, craving, do not exist by their own nature. If someone says that here it is said that taking, etc., arises from craving, so consciousness, etc., exists, because taking, existence, birth, old age, and death, etc., arise from them. Then, when the seen and the seer do not exist by their own nature, and therefore consciousness, etc., does not exist by its own nature, how can taking, and existence, birth, old age, etc., included by "etc.", exist by their own nature? They will not exist. Second, if you block seeing, but do not block hearing, etc., because they exist, so things exist by their own nature. Then, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, and thinking with the mind, and the hearer and the heard, and the smeller and the smelled included by "etc.", the taster and the tasted, the toucher and the touched, the thinker and the thought, should all be known to be explained separately. What is used to explain separately? It is seeing itself. Just as seeing is blocked, it should also be known that the five, such as hearing, are blocked; just as the seer is blocked, it should also be known that the five, such as the hearer, are blocked; just as the seen is blocked, it should also be known that the five, such as the heard, are blocked. Moreover, "The nature of the hearer itself, here is not the hearer itself." And the smeller's own, the taster's own, the toucher's own, the thinker's own, etc., these verses are all translated. Second, in this way, the three groups of six, namely action, agent, and actor, have their existence by their own nature blocked. If someone thinks that this is only established by reasoning, in order to refute this idea, and in order to show that all the scriptures that block seeing forms with the eye, etc., should be explained by this distinction, therefore the definitive meaning should be shown.

Now, to mention a little about the aspects of scripture and union: The Blessed One said, "Here, the noble hearer sees that in these forms cognizable by eye-consciousness, whether past, future, or present, there is no such thing as permanence, stability, suchness, other than suchness, or non-erroneous suchness; there is only illusion. There is that which is made by illusion. There is that which makes the mind deluded. Thus, one separately cognizes that there is something there." Thus he spoke, and the other five are similar to this. Also, in the Sutra of the Transference of Existence: "The eye does not see forms, nor does the mind know dharmas; where the world does not enter, this is the supreme truth. Where one sees by the gathering of conditions, the guide who excellently shows the way, holding that place as the ultimate meaning, one will come to understand the imputed nature." Therefore, the activity, function, and agent of the six from the eye to the mind, which grasp objects, are empty of inherent existence; that which the mind of the world does not enter is the ultimate truth, as another translation says, "Now it is the holy truth." As such. It is shown that holding as ultimately existent that place where the senses and objects, etc., are shown to grasp their respective objects by the power of the gathering of conditions is merely an imputation. Similarly: "Relying on the eye and form, eye-consciousness arises here, but form does not rely on the eye, nor does form enter into the eye. These dharmas, which are selfless and unbeautiful, are again considered as self and beautiful. Thinking wrongly about what does not exist, from that arises eye-consciousness. From the cessation and arising of consciousness, one sees the exhaustion and increase of consciousness. Nowhere is there coming and going, emptiness and cause are the same, seen by the yogi." Therefore, although consciousness arises relying on the senses and objects, the senses and objects do not transfer into each other, and from whatever aspect of arising and ceasing, they do not come from anywhere nor go anywhere; it is said to be seen like an illusion. Also, in the Questions of Upali: "The eye, if it possesses all, will see, but what is it that the eye sees forms? If the conditions are not present at night, it will not see. Therefore, one should distinguish between possessing and not possessing."
