The result, fabric, does not exist in the causes such as myself, either separately or together. How can the fabric, which does not exist in the causes, arise from the causes such as yarn by its own nature? It does not arise, like oil from sand. If it does not exist, if the fabric exists in each cause, does it exist as a complete part or as a part? If it is like the first case, many causes are not needed, because each can produce independently. If it is like the second case, each can also produce a part independently. Therefore, it is impossible to think so, because there is no complete part or part in each cause, so it does not exist in the assembled causes either. The Clear Words says: Fabric does not exist separately in each cause, because it is invisible, and it is easy to prevent the argument that many causes will lead to many results. It does not exist in the collection of yarn etc., because it does not exist in each part, and the result will be produced in one piece. The latter prevention is that when the fabric exists in the collection, there is a part of the fabric in the collection, and at that time, like before, each part can produce, so many parts will be produced. If the result, such as fabric, does not exist in the causes, but still arises from these causes, then this is not universal. If so, why wouldn't fabric etc. arise from non-causes such as reeds? It will arise. The notes on these reasons have been said before. The second point is: If the cause and the result are different, then it is reasonable to consider whether the result exists in the cause, but the result is only the nature of the cause. If the result is considered to be the nature of the cause or the transformation of the cause, that is unreasonable. If yarn etc. exist by their own nature, then it can be said that it is the nature of the fabric, but these causes do not exist in a state of existing by their own nature, because they are merely dependent on their own parts. Therefore, how can the result, such as fabric, arise from those that are not of a real self-nature, such as yarn etc.?

Is it the nature of a cause, or is it not? As it says in the *Śataśāstra*: "Cloth is produced from threads, and threads are produced from other causes. If something is not produced by itself, how can it produce something else?" Therefore, a result that has the nature of a cause does not exist. Then, would the result become the nature of a non-cause? Since the nature exists, it should not be the nature of a cause. If you say: a result established as the nature of a non-cause does not exist, because seeing that cloth should not be the nature of threads, it is not reasonable to accept it as the nature of grass. Although the birth of a result with the same nature as the cause has been previously refuted, here the refutation of the same nature, and the reasoning for the refutation, are also different. Third, suppose you have refuted the result, but the determination of cause and non-cause exists, because only grain oil comes from grains, and butter does not. Only butter comes from yogurt, and grain oil does not. Neither of these comes from sand. You also said, "From a non-cause also..." If results such as butter and grain oil do not exist, then grains and yogurt should not be causes and non-causes, therefore results and causes should also exist by nature, is that so? To this, you say that the production or non-production of results such as grain oil is the reason for the separate determination of cause and non-cause. Because it has already been shown that there is no result of the nature of cause and non-cause, how can the determination that this is the cause of this, and these are not the cause of this, exist by nature? It will not be. Second, in this way, the extremely profound wisdom of the noble ones has proven the non-existence of self-origination, but those who do not understand reasoning and only rely on scriptures say that it is only proven by dry treatises. In order to refute this statement, and to show that all the scriptures that teach the unborn nature of phenomena should be explained by this treatise, therefore, only showing the definitive meaning of the scriptures and the way of combining them: As it says in the *Āryaratnakaraṇḍaka sūtra*: "Wherever there is no wisdom of emptiness, it is like the tracks of birds in the sky."
