The twenty-sixth chapter is explained. Third, if one understands dependent origination, one can dispel wrong views, which has three aspects: explaining the tenets of the treatise; combining with the scriptures of definitive meaning; summarizing the meaning and indicating the name. The first aspect is: In the "Sālu Green Tree Sutra" it says: "Whoever truly sees such dependent origination, he does not rely on the prior extreme, nor does he rely on the posterior extreme." If it is said like this, then what are the prior and posterior extremes? And how is it that one does not rely on them? Explaining this is divided into two parts: identifying the sixteen wrong views; and the way of not dwelling on them by understanding dependent origination. The first part is: Whether I existed or did not exist in the past, or both, or neither, these are four views. And, the world is permanent, etc., which includes the four views of the world being impermanent, both, or neither. These eight views are: relative to the present body, the past body is called the "prior extreme", The extreme is the earlier part of the transmission from one life to another, and relying on it is the meaning of the object of focus. Believing that both existence and non-existence are both, and that both permanence and impermanence are both, is like the naked ascetics believing that the life of the past and future is one, and the bodies are different from each other. Neither is like what was said before, from the perspective of nomenclature, it belongs to the side of neither. Also, those who are revered by many believe that one cannot say whether a person is permanent or impermanent, and they also use the extreme views of son and examination to prevent it. One should understand the two situations of those who rely on the posterior extreme. Among them, mentioning both existence and non-existence is a representation of the other two views, the four views of existence, etc., are only focused on me, and the four views that the world is permanent, etc., are generally focused on the prior extreme, so there is a difference. I will exist or not exist at another time in the future, these two are just representations. Therefore, the four views that in the future I exist or do not exist, both, or neither. And, the world has an end, etc., which includes the four views that the world is endless, both, or neither.

Those are, in relation to the present self, the future body is called "later life," which is the transmission from one life to another. The part of the later life is its end, and because it is focused on, it depends on it. The difference between these two sets of four views is also the same as before. The second part is divided into two parts: In terms of conventional truth, based on the interdependent origination like an image, refuting the dwelling in those views; In terms of ultimate truth, with the pacification of all elaborations, refuting the dwelling in those views. The first part is divided into four parts: Refuting the first set of four views that rely on the prior extreme; This shows the refutation of the first set of four views that rely on the posterior extreme; Refuting the second set of four views that rely on the prior extreme; Refuting the second set of four views that rely on the posterior extreme. The first part is divided into two parts: Refuting the two views that consider whether the past existed or did not exist; Summarizing and showing that the other two views are also unreasonable. The first part is divided into two parts: Refuting the view that the past existed; Refuting the view that the past did not exist. The first part is divided into two parts: The actual refutation; And the summary of the refutation. The first part is: The view that "I existed in the past life," this way of holding is not reasonable to be in accordance with the meaning. The object of focus is on "I," the aspect is "in the past, it became like this," holding onto the nature of what it became in that state as becoming or existing. If the meaning it holds exists, then now, when recalling and saying "I became like this in the past," this self and the self of the previous life must be the same, because the self that existed in those times of the previous life is not this self of this life, so that kind of view is unreasonable. If the self that is focused on as "I became like this in the past" is established by its own nature, then the reason why the self of the previous and later lives becomes the same is: If the two selves are established by nature, then they must be established as either one or different in nature, and the difference in nature will also be refuted as explained, so they become the same. If the two selves of the previous and later lives are one, then they will become permanent, and if so, in the gradual cycle of rebirth, not even one being can be a human and in hell at the same time.
