Because of seeing that. If there is ignorance, actions will arise, and if there is not, they will not arise. Therefore, if ignorance ceases, that is, is eliminated, then actions and so on will not arise, because the cause is not complete. If asked, by what will that ignorance be stopped? The cessation of ignorance, that is, its exhaustion, is because of knowing the very nature of dependent origination without error. By relying on meditating on the meaning of that very nature, one will directly see that very nature, and the yogi who sees that very nature will surely abandon ignorance. By abandoning ignorance, actions will cease, and likewise, when the previous limbs such as actions cease, the subsequent limbs will not appear. These stages are the yogi's aggregates of suffering, emptiness of self and what belongs to self, established by their own characteristics, unmixed with happiness, and that unique one will not arise again, so it is truly ceased, that is, exhausted. In all other treatises, the self-establishment of phenomena is refuted by reasoning, but it is not refuted in this treatise, because when the self-establishment of the dependent origination of beings and phenomena is refuted, it has already been explained that all these limbs are without self-nature. Here it is said that if one meditates on that very nature that has been determined in that way, ignorance will be reversed, and by that power, all the remaining limbs of existence will be reversed, and liberation will be attained. If one does not find such a view, ignorance will not be reversed, and by that power, the subsequent limbs will enter, so it is explained that the wheel of samsara is turned. Second, taking the dependent origination of beings and phenomena as the object, the two ignorances that grasp at self, first one must determine how the two selves are grasped by innate ignorance, and then one must know that all the reasons that have been spoken are to refute the two selves that are grasped by those two ignorances, and one must know that this is a limb for generating the view of realizing the antidote to those two non-selves. After completely purifying and determining the view of realizing non-self, one must strive to reverse the dependent origination through the three ways of hearing, thinking, and meditating.
