That which is bound by means of aggregation as a cause is not dependent on its own aggregation of causes and conditions, nor does it enter by means of it as a cause, but rather the complete pacification of the elaborations of afflictions and aggregates as previously described, that is what the Tathagata taught as Nirvana. That alone is neither real nor established by the nature of non-reality. Or, entering into samsara by relying on it is the cycle of actions as previously described, and entering by means of the aggregates of grasping is the cycle of individuals as previously described. Here, the Dharma-nature of the mind, which is the basis for abandoning the seeds of afflictions and extinguishing the appearance of the aggregates of grasping, should be regarded as Nirvana. It is not that the cessation of causes and conditions such as afflictions, and the non-arising of similar types in the future, is Nirvana, because this is the future produced by the exhaustion of the previous cause. Fourth, furthermore, the sutra says: "Monks, those who seek definite liberation from existence by means of arising or ceasing are those who do not know." Therefore, it teaches to abandon the craving for arising and the craving for ceasing, and teaches that Nirvana is not to be abandoned. Therefore, it is reasonable that Nirvana is not real, nor does it exist by the nature of non-reality. If it exists by the nature of these two, then Nirvana would also only become something to be abandoned. It would also be unreasonable to criticize those who cling to and are attached to the craving for arising as real and ceasing as unreal, and who desire to definitely escape from samsara. Second, if according to the opponent's view, afflictions and rebirth are both unreal, therefore Nirvana is unreal, and oneself is the nature of reality, therefore it is believed that both of these are established by their own nature, and it is thought that the faults of establishing each of these separately will not harm. This is what the Tirthika Samkhyas acknowledge, and it is said in the commentary on the Lamp of Wisdom that liberation is the aggregation of the world, which is the characteristic of the field of accomplishment, and because the meaning of the word life-force exists, it is real, and because the suffering of samsara is cut off, it is also unreal. That is, the liberation spoken of by the Victorious Ones is life-sustaining, has the stainless color of saffron, and milk

It is like the color of a pearl oyster, and its shape is like an open, round umbrella. Just as it is said, I say that it exists above all the worlds. If nirvana liberation exists by its own nature in both things and non-things, then at that time things and non-things will become liberation. Therefore, if the self-nature of samsara is newly obtained in the first moment, and all that is separated from it in the second moment becomes liberation, then they should not be liberation. This is like saying that if one thing, like fire, becomes the cause and effect established as another by its own nature, then all other things will also become cause and effect. For the difference between things and non-things, if one wants liberation established by its own nature, then in that case, those two will also all become liberation, which is an equalization of reasons with the same reason. Furthermore, if nirvana is established by its own nature as two things, things and non-things, then at that time nirvana will not be non-dependent on causes and conditions, but will arise dependent on causes and conditions, because those two, things and non-things, established by their own nature, arise dependent on causes and conditions. If nirvana exists as non-thing by its own nature, then what existence must be considered non-existent? It is the impermanence of the destruction of the things of samsara, and if that is the case, then it is the reason for arising dependent on things. Furthermore, how can it be said that nirvana exists by its own nature as two things, things and non-things? If that were the case, nirvana would not be unconditioned, but would become conditioned. In this way, both things and the non-thing of the exhaustion of the things of samsara, established by their own nature, are conditioned, because that is the destruction of that thing, and it is said that the cause of birth is old age and death, and the destruction of death also arises from the cause of birth. If it is not thought that nirvana is the nature of things and non-things, but that those two exist in it? Then, how can nirvana have two things, things and non-things, existing by their own nature? In this way, it is impossible for those two to exist by their own nature on one basis, because they are mutually contradictory, like light and darkness.

English

If the basis has both the entity of a pot and the non-entity of cloth, and these two are not contradictory, then is it also the case that in nirvana there is the non-entity of samsara and the entity of liberation, and these two are not contradictory? If entities and non-entities are established by their own nature, then if one entity exists, all entities must exist; and if one entity does not exist, all entities must not exist. Ultimately, one must accept that on a single basis, there is both an entity and a non-entity. The third case is: if nirvana is neither an entity nor a non-entity, but exists by its own nature, then according to that view, it is also unreasonable. If there is no entity in the knowable, and entities are established by their own nature, then by negating their differences, some of the differences of entities and the differences of non-entities would also be established by their own nature. However, since neither of these two can be established by their own nature, negating one of them will not cause the other to be established by its own nature. For example, if a rabbit and horns cannot exist, then negating rabbit horns is impossible; if a barren woman and a son cannot exist, then negating a barren woman's son is impossible. Furthermore, if nirvana is established by its own nature as an essence that is neither an entity nor a non-entity, then who would apprehend and clarify that nirvana exists by its own nature as an essence that is not an entity and not a non-entity? If it exists at the time of no remainder, then at that time the self would exist. But you do not want that, because you do not want a self without appropriated aggregates to exist, and you want the continuum of aggregates to cease at the time of no remainder. If there is no apprehender at that time, then how would anyone know that nirvana exists in such an essence? If it is said that those who remain in samsara ascertain it, then do they ascertain it through consciousness or through wisdom? The former is unreasonable, because consciousness takes the characteristics of elaboration as its object, and in the face of directly realizing nirvana, there is not even a trace of the characteristics of elaboration, and here, the ascertainment is in the context of direct ascertainment. If one thinks that it is ascertained by the wisdom that directly realizes the meaning of suchness,
