Should be realized by each individual themselves. Son of good family, the ultimate truth is that whether the Tathāgatas appear or not, for what reason do Bodhisattvas shave their hair and beards, don the robes of a renunciant, and with true faith go forth from home to homelessness, and having gone forth, strive diligently like their hair or clothes are on fire in order to attain that Dharma, and abide without destroying it. Son of good family, if the ultimate truth did not exist, then the pure conduct Pages 501 to 583 would become meaningless, and the appearance of the Tathāgatas would also become meaningless. Because that ultimate truth exists, therefore Bodhisattvas are called skilled in the ultimate truth. Thus it is said. If one cannot acknowledge the realization of the meaning of that suchness, then the effort of making many discriminations of right and wrong in examining that suchness is meaningless, because it is impossible to be skilled in the ultimate truth. The great sage spoke of the collection of teachings. Eighty-four thousand in number, Whoever does not know this truth, All of that is without fruit. Thus spoke the Bhagavan. In the Entering the Middle Way it says: The firewood of knowable objects is completely burned, the quiescence is the Dharmakāya of the Victorious Ones. At that time there is no birth and no cessation, the cessation of mind is what is directly shown by the body. Thus it is said, and in its commentary it says: The object of wisdom, that suchness, in all ways, the mind and mental factors that have it as their object do not enter, therefore it is established as being directly shown by the body. Thus it is said, and it is not contradictory, because at the time of Buddhahood, the activities of mind and mental factors, such as conceptual thoughts, do not arise, therefore the Dharmakāya is not shown through that door, but rather it is established as being shown only by the Sambhogakāya. In the face of the wisdom that directly realizes that suchness, there is not even a subtle appearance of duality between one's own object and the object-possessor, but it is equally absorbed like water placed in water, and therefore, it does not directly measure how many things, because if it were to measure, then it would not be possible to realize through implication, it would have to be directly realized, and that would be without aspects.

Therefore, this way of measuring does not conform to the views of this sect. Because for the mind that manifests forms, sounds, and other appearances, it is impossible to not have the appearance of both object and subject. If all that is knowable is not measured, it will not lead to the fault of separating phenomena and suchness. Because in the face of the wisdom of reason that realizes suchness, the connection between phenomena and suchness is not established. It is like in the face of the conventional valid cognition that cognizes blue, there is no ultimate truth, so there is no need to separate the two. Furthermore, if the Buddha measures all that is knowable with the wisdom that knows the suchness, then the wisdom of reason that sees the true meaning will obtain the conventional truth, thus causing the characteristics of the two truths to be confused, and all conventional truths must be established by the power of the wisdom of reason that has suchness as its object. The second point is: According to this sect, is the wisdom that knows all that is knowable needed in the state of Buddhahood or not? If it is not needed, then what is said in the "Entering the Middle Way" about the knowledge of the ten powers is also unreasonable, and it is not permissible to acknowledge all Buddhas as omniscient, thus slandering one's own teacher. If it is needed, then for children, if their own nature is not established, they will not appear there, so no one will be confused, which is impossible. At that time, these must appear in the Buddha's wisdom that knows all that is knowable. If that is the case, since there is no meaning as it appears, it will become confused. If you think so, then the fault as mentioned before will be committed, so the second view is not accepted. Furthermore, in the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way," a sutra is quoted: "Also, there are very many sentient beings who do not appear in a place the size of a chariot wheel, but appear to the Tathagata. The gods and humans of the three thousand great thousand world realms are not like that." Thus, for non-Buddhists, sages with five clairvoyances, and Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas, sentient beings who do not appear in a place the size of a chariot wheel, but appear to the Buddha, are said to be very many. It is known after appearing, not not appearing. The object of appearance is also all that is knowable that is not defiled by the imprints of ignorance, such as the marks and signs of the Buddha, and all that is defiled by the imprints of ignorance.
