In order to ascertain that false knowables have a deceptive nature, it is necessary to obtain a view that refutes the object of attachment, which clings to that basis as true, through reasoning. For if the truth is not refuted by reasoning, then falsehood cannot be established through valid cognition. Therefore, establishing that basis as the meaning of conventional truth through the mind necessarily depends on refuting the existence of ultimate reality through the mind. Vases, mats, and so forth are conventional truths, but when these are established by the mind, it is not necessary to establish the meaning of conventional truth by the mind. For although vases, mats, and so forth do not actually exist, they appear like illusions, but just as the meaning of illusions does not need to be established by the mind that establishes them. Therefore, it is unreasonable to rely on the cognition of ordinary beings who lack the view of Madhyamaka and say that vases, mats, and so forth are conventional truths, and to rely on the noble ones and say that they are ultimate truths. As it is said in the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way": "For ordinary beings, whatever is the ultimate truth is merely conventional for those noble ones who have objects of experience along with appearances. And whatever is the emptiness of that nature is the ultimate truth for those noble ones." Because this is speaking contrary to what was said. Ordinary beings cling to vases and so forth as being true, and they also cling to these as existing ultimately. Therefore, relying on their cognition, vases and so forth are established as ultimately real, and not as conventional meanings. From their perspective, the basis established as ultimately real, vases and so forth, is conventional in relation to the appearance in the continuum of the noble ones, that is, seeing the meaning as like an illusion. Because relying on that knowledge, it cannot be established as true, it is said to be merely conventional. Even so, it is said that the nature of those is the ultimate truth, so it should be said separately that vases and so forth are conventional, and that the nature of those is the ultimate truth of the noble ones. It should not be said that vases and so forth are ultimate for the noble ones, because the reasoning that sees their true meaning has not found vases and so forth. And, what is found by the reasoning that sees the true meaning is said to be the characteristic of ultimate truth. The third is, for the knowledge that sees the deceptive nature of false knowables, there is also a need for clear sensory knowledge that is not mixed with temporary causes of confusion such as cataracts, and temporary

are the two types of consciousness of a defective sense faculty that is tainted by the cause of delusion, and that is established as a reversed consciousness in relation to the former. Thus, it is also said in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Deeds: "False perceptions are also of two kinds: Those with clear faculties and those with impaired faculties. The consciousness of those with impaired faculties Is considered reversed in relation to the consciousness of those with good faculties." Thus it is said. Just as the object-possessor is divided into correct and incorrect, similarly, for its object, correct and incorrect are also taught, namely, the meaning apprehended by the six sense consciousnesses without the harm of an immediate cause of delusion, and the meaning apprehended by the six sense consciousnesses with the harm of an immediate cause of delusion. Thus, it is also said in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Deeds: "Whatever is apprehended by the six unimpaired faculties, That which is understood by the world is true. The remainder is considered reversed by the world." Thus it is said. Among them, the faults that harm the sense faculty internally are cataracts and jaundice, and eating datura, and so forth. The faults that harm the sense faculty externally are mirrors and caves, and so forth, from uttering sounds and the sun's rays in summer being close to a sandy place where people live, and so forth. Those, in the absence of the faults that harm the sense faculty internally, become the cause of apprehending reflections and echoes of rocks and mirages as water, and so forth. Similarly, one should also know the mantras (藏文:སྔགས།,梵文天城体:मंत्र,梵文罗马拟音:mantra,汉语字面意思:真言) and medicines, and so forth, prepared by magicians, and so forth. The harm to the faculty of mind is those and wrong tenets and seemingly valid reasons and the harm of sleep, and so forth. Thus, the harm of ignorance, and so forth, of the two self-graspers that have entered from beginningless time is not considered a cause of harm here, but rather the immediate causes of delusion that harm the sense faculties as previously explained are taken. Thus, the conventional meaning apprehended by the six consciousnesses without such harm, and the meaning that is the opposite of that, are established as correct and incorrect only in relation to worldly consciousness, because those meanings exist as they appear, and because worldly consciousness is unharmed and harmed. In relation to the noble ones, there are no two, correct and incorrect, as
