If one wishes to enjoy in the future, then the fruits of actions accumulated by others are enjoyed by others, which leads to the fault of encountering what has not been done. Even if the prior and subsequent moments are different, one cannot say that there is no fault because the continuum is the same, because if each moment arises with its own characteristic, cause and effect are not permissible, so the fault of the continuum being unreasonable, which was previously stated, cannot be avoided. Just as one does not remember "this body of mine existed before," one would also not say "at that time, at that moment, I became known as 'my offspring,'" because the self at that time is destroyed like the body, and here it has been promised that a self different in its own characteristic arises from the former. The Tathagata is not different in its own characteristic from the five aggregates, otherwise, as stated in the tenth chapter, there would also be the occurrence of no aggregates, and as stated in the eighteenth chapter, the aggregates are the nature of being represented as compounded or the nature of each aggregate becoming a different substance. Because the Tathagata and the aggregates are not established as being inherently different. Therefore, the Tathagata relying on the aggregates and the aggregates relying on the Tathagata are not inherently existent. Just as the way Devadatta possesses blackness and possesses ears, the Tathagata possessing the aggregates is also not inherently existent, because they are inherently different and not established as one, respectively. The remaining three views can be included in the first two as appropriate, so they can be included in the two views of one and different, but considering the application of the way of holding onto destruction, therefore five views are stated here and in the tenth chapter. Thus, because the five views do not exist inherently, what Tathagata exists that is established by its own characteristic, because there is nothing, so the continuum of existence is also not inherently existent. The second part has two parts: refuting that the Tathagata imputed in dependence on the aggregates exists inherently; refuting that the Tathagata and the aggregates exist inherently as the taker and the taken. The first part has four parts: if imputed in dependence on the aggregates, then it is not inherently existent; refuting the answer that the two are not contradictory; if the self-entity is not established, then the other-entity is not established; therefore, the Tathagata self

It is established as without inherent existence. First, the learned ones say that it would become a fault as stated, therefore the Tathagata and the aggregates are neither one nor different, like a tree on a snow mountain, the Tathagata is the aggregates; like a lion in the forest, the aggregates are the Tathagata; like a wheel-turning king possessing marks, the Tathagata is also not possessing aggregates, because they do not admit one and different. So what is it? From the aggregates, the Tathagata, which cannot be said to be the same or different, is established by relying on the aggregates. Therefore, the fivefold negation does not harm us, so they say. If the Buddha is established by relying on the aggregates, then it would become not inherently existent or not inherently existing, because it is established by dependence, like an image. If something is not inherently existent, that is, not existing from its own essence, then how can it inherently exist from other things by relying on the aggregates? It does not exist. Second, if the image is not established as its own nature in the place where it appears, therefore it is not inherently existent, but like the face and mirror etc. exist depending on other things. The Tathagata is also not inherently existent, but relying on the aggregates, does it become inherently existent from other things? If you say so. If the Tathagata is considered to exist like an image by relying on other things, then the Tathagata should not be self-existent, that is, not the nature of existing by its own essence, like an image. If something is not self-existent like an image, that is, not inherently existent, then how can it become inherently existent as the Tathagata? It will not become. The previous verse said that if it is inherently existent, then it must be posited only by its own essence, and it is not appropriate to posit it by relying on the aggregates. As a response to this, the latter verse shows that the two are contradictory, that is, it is not established by its own nature without relying on others, but it is established by its own nature by relying on others. Third, if the Tathagata is inherently existent, then relying on it, the nature of the aggregates will become other, and relying on it will become the Tathagata, if so, if the Tathagata has inherent existence
