Furthermore, if it is asserted that arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, then in which of the two, things with the nature of exhaustion and things without the nature of exhaustion, does it exist? For things with the nature of exhaustion, arising, that is, birth, does not exist by its own nature, because for something established by its own nature, it is contradictory for arising and ceasing to be combined in one thing. For things without exhaustion, arising also does not exist by its own nature, because if something established by its own nature is not exhausted, then the characteristic of the thing will not possess destruction. For the exhaustion of things, destruction does not exist by its own nature, because that is the object to be refuted, and it does not exist, and for it, it is not reasonable for destruction to exist by its own nature as a basis. For things without exhaustion, destruction also does not exist by its own nature, for the reason is as previously stated. Second, arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, because things exist by their own nature, and that is the basis of the two, if you say so. Things do not exist by their own nature, therefore arising and ceasing do not exist by their own essence. The reason why things do not exist by their own nature is like this: arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, which has already been refuted, and if the two do not exist, then things do not exist by their own nature, because the two are the characteristics of things. In the Lamp of Wisdom it says: Existence and non-existence are not the dharma of things, like the beard of a frog. Arising and ceasing are the dharma of things, therefore they truly exist. In response to this, arising and ceasing do not exist ultimately, therefore things do not exist ultimately, because things are the nature of arising and ceasing, therefore the reason is not established. Similarly, things do not exist, that is, there is no basis, because there is no basis, the dependent arising and ceasing also do not exist, and this is explained by dividing the upper and lower halves. Third, if arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, then examine whether existence by its own essence depends on emptiness or non-emptiness. For existence by its own nature depends on emptiness, it is not reasonable for arising and ceasing to exist by their own nature, because there is no basis, like a flower in the sky. For non-emptiness, which exists by its own characteristics, it is also not reasonable for arising and ceasing to exist, because non-emptiness is arising

Because arising and ceasing cannot be impermanent, it is not a basis. Third, if arising and ceasing exist by their own nature, then they do not go beyond two ways of existing, that is, arising and ceasing are one in essence, which is unreasonable, because things that contradict each other, like light and darkness, cannot be one. It is also unreasonable for arising and ceasing to be different in essence, if they are established as other by their own characteristics, they will become unrelated, because these two are not confused with each other. The second part is divided into two points: thinking that what is seen is not a proof, and explaining its proof. The first point: What is the use of such a detailed analysis? Because cowherds and women, etc., all think that arising and ceasing are established by their own characteristics. If these two exist by their own nature, then, if you think that arising and ceasing are established in essence, then, using this reason to prove that arising and ceasing exist by their own characteristics is uncertain. Because just as cowherds and women, etc., see Gandharva cities and illusions, etc., and dazzling people see hairnets and mosquitoes, etc., the appearance of arising and ceasing being established in essence is also seen because of ignorance and being deceived by ignorance. The second part is divided into two points: refuting arising and ceasing from arising from the same and different categories, and refuting things from arising from themselves and others. The first point: If the appearance of arising and ceasing being established by their own nature is seen because of being deceived by ignorance, then how is this established? This is established through reasoning. What is the reasoning? Here, if arising exists by its own nature, then it must arise from things (i.e., arising) or non-things (i.e., ceasing), and if ceasing exists by its own nature, it must also arise in this way. First of all, things (i.e., arising) are not produced from the same kind of things (i.e., arising) in essence, if they are produced in that way, then the cause and effect will be simultaneous, and the things that have already been produced will be produced again, both of which are unreasonable. Things (i.e., arising) are not produced from non-things (i.e., ceasing) in essence, if it is like being established by its own nature, it needs a time of ceasing, then if it is produced from the object of ceasing, it is like a widow's daughter.
