In the Da Palita and the Commentary, both agree that the liberation from samsara, the path to liberation, is taught in common from the Lesser Vehicle to the Greater Vehicle. In the Commentary, Lekden says that the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas have not understood the selflessness of phenomena, so it is not the view of the noble ones and is unreasonable. In the Ratnavali, it is said that those who fear that their own school has no basis explain the meaning of suchness without having experienced it. This is said to the Shravaka schools that hold the tenets of the Vaibhashikas and Sautrantikas, but it is not shown that all Lesser Vehicles have not experienced it. Those of the Lesser Vehicle who realize the suchness of persons and phenomena, having abandoned the extreme of falling into the abyss of permanence and annihilation with a view that is free from extremes, are therefore Madhyamikas. Although there is a danger of falling into the extreme of peace for them, this does not harm their being Madhyamikas, otherwise it would be impossible to be a Madhyamika until one is liberated from the bonds of existence and the decay of peace. The second part is divided into two points: refuting contradictions with the scriptures, and the reason why suchness cannot be expressed anywhere. The first point is: if the suchness is manifested, external and internal objects cannot be identified, so the conceptual thought of the view of self for the two disappears, and this is the suchness. Then, how can it not contradict the sutra which says, "Oneself is one's own protector, who else can be a protector? By taming oneself well, the wise will attain higher realms," and "Black and white actions will not perish, one will experience what one has done."? Then, the sutra says, "Here there is no self or sentient being, these phenomena all have causes," and "Similarly, self is not form, self is not combined with form, form is without self, self is without form," and the same is said for the remaining four aggregates. "All phenomena are without self." So how can these not contradict the previous scriptures? Therefore, it is necessary to seek the intention of the Buddha's teaching in this way, and the intention is this: for those inferior beings who deny that sentient beings and self come here from previous lives and go from here to future lives, and who deny that happiness and suffering arise in future lives from the white and black actions done here, they will recklessly indulge in sin.
