Therefore, since emptiness, which contradicts the clinging to the root of samsara—the view of the aggregates as inherently existent, is fully understood, I will not elaborate further here. The second part has two points: the order of eliminating faults and the way of attaining liberation. The first part has three points: the way of eliminating the view of the aggregates as inherently existent, refuting arguments against it, and the way of exhausting birth by exhausting grasping. The first point is: In this way, by constantly meditating on the view that has ascertained that "I" and "mine" are not established by their own nature, the signs of the object of clinging to "I," the person, the self, and the signs of the object of clinging to "mine," the aggregates, are pacified, that is, nothing appears, and the object and the subject become of one taste. Therefore, the yogi abandons the view of the aggregates as inherently existent, which holds that "I" is established by its own nature and "mine" is also established by its own nature, and thus the view of the aggregates as inherently existent disappears. This is because the view and what is to be abandoned have opposite ways of clinging to the same object, and the former enters into the correct meaning. The way to practice this view and the way to cultivate calm abiding and insight have already been extensively explained in the stages of the path to enlightenment, so I will not elaborate further here. The second point is: If that is the case, there is a yogi who abandons the clinging to "I" and "mine," and if that is the case, do "I" and the aggregates exist by their own nature? The answer is: It has already been said that "I" and "mine" do not exist by their own nature, and if that is the case, there is no clinging to "I" and "mine" other than these, that is, the yogi who is the abandoner does not exist by his own nature either. If someone thinks that there is no clinging to "I" and "mine," that is, the yogi who is the abandoner exists by his own nature, then he has not seen the meaning of suchness and cannot abandon the view of the aggregates as inherently existent, which clings to "I" and "mine." As it is said in the sutra: "Look at the emptiness of the inner self, look at the emptiness of the outer phenomena as well, whoever meditates on emptiness, that one also does not exist." And as it is also said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Whoever thinks of the peaceful and extremely peaceful Dharma, that thought is never found." The aggregates are by nature solitary and empty, enlightenment is by nature solitary and empty, what is practiced is also by nature empty, the wise know it, but not the childish. The third point is: In this way, "I" and "mine"

Because the 'I' is not observed, if the two wrong views of considering 'I' and 'mine' in the nature of the inner 'I' and the outer 'I' disappear, then the four clingings will cease. Because it is said that all afflictions are rooted in the wrong view of the aggregate, originate from the wrong view of the aggregate, and are caused by the wrong view of the aggregate. The four clingings are: desire clinging, view clinging, moral discipline and asceticism clinging, and self-assertion clinging. They are, in order, the desire for objects such as form and sound, and all wrong views except the wrong view of the aggregate, as well as bad moral discipline and asceticism related to wrong views, and craving and attachment arising from focusing on the four views based on the wrong view of the aggregate. Because these clingings are exhausted, the cycle of rebirth caused by karma will also be exhausted. Secondly, because the order of cessation of rebirth is as previously explained, therefore, abiding in the exhaustion of karma and afflictions will lead to liberation. If clinging is exhausted, then the cycle of existence caused by it will not arise, and if both karma and afflictions are exhausted, then birth, old age, and death will cease. Then, one might think, through what does karma and afflictions become exhausted? The karma that arises in samsara arises from afflictions, and afflictions also arise from the non-rational conceptual thoughts of pleasure and pain and inversion, and are not inherently existent. Those non-rational conceptual thoughts arise from the various proliferations of clinging to the truth of knowledge, knowable, speech, speaker, vase, felt, man, woman, and gain and non-gain, etc., from habituation since beginningless time. The proliferation of clinging to the truth ceases through habituation of seeing those objects as emptiness. Thus, emptiness is the only truth, and by cultivating its view, one can realize it, and at the end of cultivation, when the seeds of afflictions are exhausted, the emptiness itself in which proliferation is completely ceased is called liberation and nirvana. In the Hundred Treatises it says: In short, non-harm is the Dharma, as spoken by the Tathagatas, emptiness is nirvana, here there are only these two. Just as it is said. In the Lamp on Wisdom it says: Because that is exhausted, so birth is exhausted. And using the above verses to explain the liberation of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, liberation is through the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. Using such verses to elucidate the liberation of the Mahayana.
